The MAZE Podcast features members of Amsterdam-based ensemble MAZE interviewing composer-performer guests. Conversations explore each guest's work, inspirations, and the pieces developed for MAZE, reflecting the ensemble's collective approach to open scores. About MAZE: https://www.maze.nu/ Amsterdam-based ensemble MAZE is dedicated to performing music that challenges the idea of fixed form and fixed listening perspectives. They work with pioneering composers to develop open scores, hybrid notations and unusual performances. MAZE is formed by Yannis Kyriakides, Anne La Berge, Gareth Davis, Reinier van Houdt, Wiek Hijmans and Dario Calderone. Each member brings a distinct artistic practice to the ensemble, contributing to a collective approach in which roles, materials and modes of attention remain fluid and open to transformation. They produce local festivals in addition to concerts, lectures, and discussion panels on the future of notation, composition and performance. The exploration of new media for the creation of notation and scores, has been the focus of MAZE in the last years, as seen in the work of members Anne La Berge and Yannis Kyriakides. MAZE has collaborated with guest composers such as Christian Marclay, Annea Lockwood, Michael Pisaro, Okkyung Lee, Peter Ablinger, Barbara Ellison, Alessandro Bosetti and Alvin Lucier. In recent years, MAZE has presented its work at venues and festivals including Holland Festival, Bimhuis, the Onassis Foundation in Athens, Angelica Festival in Bologna, Riverrun in Albi, Kontraklang in Berlin, and Arnolfini in Bristol, among others.
