Wisdom Notebook

Orlando Buck

Wisdom Notebook is a podcast about seeking biblical wisdom and learning to live it out. Each day, we begin in the book of Proverbs—reading Scripture and reflecting on one truth worth carrying with us. Along the way, we’ll go deeper, studying other books of the Bible and learning from the lives, sermons, letters, books, and writings of Christians who have gone before us—from the Apostles, Charles Spurgeon, C.S. Lewis, Billy Graham, and many others. We aren't looking for heroes to imitate or human wisdom to accept without question. We’re searching for what is true, testing what we learn against Scripture, and asking what it means for the way we follow Christ today. Open your Bible. Grab a notebook. And join a community of Wisdom Seekers learning together from Scripture and from those who have gone before us. Seek wisdom. Write it down. Live it out.

Episode #032 - The Choice is Yours | Proverbs 1

Hello Wisdom Seekers! I'd love to hear your thoughts about today's Scripture and episode. Episode #032 — The Choice Is Yours Proverbs 1:24 A new month means a fresh journey through Proverbs, and we're beginning with an important question: What do we do when wisdom calls? In Proverbs 1, wisdom is pictured calling out in public, offering instruction and warning people about the consequences of ignoring it. But hearing good advice and following it are two very different things. Today, we're considering why we sometimes resist correction, what happens when we insist on doing things our own way, and how choosing to listen can change the direction of our lives. From My Wisdom Notebook “God invites me to follow His wisdom, but I must choose whether to listen and obey.” Scripture Proverbs 1:1–33 (ESV) Focus verse: Proverbs 1:24 Additional Scripture: Proverbs 1:20–33; Matthew 23:37 Join the Wisdom Seekers Want to continue seeking wisdom together? Episode #031 - Where Wisdom Begins | Proverbs 31

Hello Wisdom Seekers! I'd love to hear your thoughts about today's Scripture and episode. Episode #031 — Where Wisdom Begins Proverbs 31:30 We've reached the final chapter of Proverbs and completed our first 31-day journey through God's Word together! But as we come to the end of the book, we discover a truth that takes us right back to where we started. In Proverbs 31, we're reminded that wisdom is about more than knowledge, accomplishments, or appearances. It's about developing a life shaped by reverence for God. Today, we're reflecting on what we've learned, how God's Word is changing us, and why the foundation of wisdom remains just as important at the end of our journey as it was at the beginning. From My Wisdom Notebook “Wisdom begins with honoring God, and grows as I learn to live according to his word.” Scripture Proverbs 31:1–31 (ESV) Focus verse: Proverbs 31:30 Additional Scripture: Proverbs 1:7 Join the Wisdom Seekers Want to continue seeking wisdom together? Episode #030 - Never Enough | Proverbs 30

Hello Wisdom Seekers! I'd love to hear your thoughts about today's Scripture and episode. Episode #030 — Never Enough Proverbs 30:15–16 Have you ever noticed how getting something you've wanted doesn't always leave you satisfied for very long? In Proverbs 30, Agur gives us a striking picture of desires that never seem to say, “Enough.” Whether we're pursuing money, possessions, recognition, or something else, it's easy to become so focused on what we want next that we overlook what God has already provided. Today, we're exploring the difference between healthy ambition and endless wanting—and discovering how gratitude, trust, and contentment can help us recognize when enough really is enough. From My Wisdom Notebook “Wisdom learns to recognize when enough is enough, instead of allowing desires to always demand more.” Scripture Proverbs 30:1–33 (ESV) Focus verses: Proverbs 30:15–16 Additional Scripture: Proverbs 30:7–9; Philippians 4:11–13 Join the Wisdom Seekers Want to continue seeking wisdom together? Episode #029 - The Approval Trap | Proverbs 29

Hello Wisdom Seekers! I'd love to hear your thoughts about today's Scripture and episode. Episode #029 — The Approval Trap Proverbs 29:25 Have you ever said yes when you really wanted to say no, simply because you didn't want to disappoint someone? In Proverbs 29, Solomon warns us that the fear of other people's opinions can become a trap. Wanting to be liked isn't necessarily wrong, but when the desire for approval begins controlling our decisions, we can lose sight of what matters most. Today, we're considering how to care about people without being controlled by their approval, and how trusting God gives us the courage to do what's right—even when it isn't popular. From My Wisdom Notebook “Wisdom listens to others without allowing their approval to determine what is right.” Scripture Proverbs 29:1–27 (ESV) Focus verse: Proverbs 29:25 Join the Wisdom Seekers Want to continue seeking wisdom together? Episode #028 - What Are You Running From? | Proverbs 28

Hello Wisdom Seekers! I'd love to hear your thoughts about today's Scripture and episode. Episode #028 — What Are You Running From? Proverbs 28:1 Have you ever felt like you were running from something, even though nobody was chasing you? In Proverbs 28, Solomon gives us a memorable picture of the difference between a guilty conscience and the confidence that comes from living with integrity. Sometimes the things we're trying hardest to escape are the very things we need to face. Today, we're considering how honesty, confession, and God's mercy can help us stop running from our mistakes and find the courage to make things right. From My Wisdom Notebook “Wisdom gives me the courage to face what's wrong instead of spending my life running from it.” Scripture Proverbs 28:1–28 (ESV) Focus verse: Proverbs 28:1 Additional Scripture: Proverbs 28:13; 1 John 1:9 Join the Wisdom Seekers Want to continue seeking wisdom together? Episode #027 - The Man in the Mirror | Proverbs 27

Hello Wisdom Seekers! I'd love to hear your thoughts about today's Scripture and episode. Episode #027 — The Man in the Mirror Proverbs 27:19 We look in mirrors every day to check our appearance. But what if we could see what's happening in our hearts just as clearly? In Proverbs 27, Solomon uses the reflection of a face in water to teach us something about our character. Our thoughts, attitudes, motives, and responses often reveal more about who we are becoming than what people see on the outside. Today, we're considering what it means to examine our hearts honestly, recognize where we need to grow, and invite God to help us become people who reflect His wisdom. From My Wisdom Notebook “Wisdom looks beyond the reflection in the mirror and asks God to reveal what's in my heart.” Scripture Proverbs 27:1–27 (ESV) Focus verse: Proverbs 27:19 Additional Scripture: Psalm 139:23–24 Join the Wisdom Seekers Want to continue seeking wisdom together? Episode #026 - Stop Feeding the Fire | Proverbs 26

Hello Wisdom Seekers! I'd love to hear your thoughts about today's Scripture and episode. Episode #026 — Stop Feeding the Fire Proverbs 26:20–22 Have you ever watched a small disagreement turn into a major argument because people just wouldn't stop talking about it? In Proverbs 26, Solomon compares gossip and conflict to a fire that keeps burning as long as someone continues adding fuel. Whether we're repeating a rumor, passing along a distorted story, or insisting on having the last word, our words can make a difficult situation worse. Today, we're considering how wisdom helps us recognize when to speak up, when to respond gently, and when it's time to stop adding wood to the fire. From My Wisdom Notebook “Wisdom knows when to speak words that bring peace and when to stop supplying the fuel that keeps conflict burning.” Scripture Proverbs 26:1–28 (ESV) Focus passage: Proverbs 26:20–22 Additional Scripture: Proverbs 15:1 Join the Wisdom Seekers Want to continue seeking wisdom together?
