View from my chair podcast. View from my chair podcast is a whimsical and quirky look at life from the view of a disabled person who describes himself as a professional spectator and people watcher. My view of life comes from my mobility scooter, power chair, comfy lounge rising sofa and any car I can climb in and out of!     Early Christmas, Advent calendars, and robin mafia.

In this episode I complain about Christmas stuff arriving in the supermarkets in September, and how I thought it spoilt the build up to the festive holiday. I look back to the same period during my childhood in the early 1970’s and think about conker season, penny for the guy and collecting rubbish to build a huge community bonfire on a local field. I remember fondly looking through the large mail order catalogues choosing the one ideal present ready for Christmas day. I then discuss the rise of posh advent calendars, as opposed to the cheap chocolate ones, containing such things as wine, tea, jam; and if you google the wrong thing adult sex toys. Lastly I talk about the robin red breast, a bird I see a lot on my dog walks and think about how nastly they can be comparing them to the mafia.

    Dating in days gone by and disabled toilet chaos

In this episode I ponder why a lot of the thirty year olds are still single and wonder if this is a product of the digital age as fewer and fewer younger people actually meet face to face. I look back and compare this to my dating experience in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. A time of dodgy school and youth club discos. Where asking a girl to dance was a feat of braver and also rejection being a rite of passage. I think about how much easier is was to meet and chat to the female sex once you looked old enough to be served in the local village pubs. In the 80’s UK you could probably be served alcohol if you were a mature sixteen year old. In the second half of the podcast I relate my experiences the day I visited our local disabled aids store and how I struggled with the high tech folding bed, and finally come to grief with a rising toilet seat I just had to try.

    My dog eats cat poo and other tails!

    Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! In which I introduce my dog who is a large independent thing who is part wolf. She is trained when she wants to be which means in truth she does what she wants to. This mostly shows as sitting outside in the rain or hunting things. She is a successful hunter as has caught a large and varied range of small furry animals. My dog is disgusting. I then discuss why my dog eats cats poo and where does this all come from as we never see any cats on out walk. I propose two possible theories! On my walks you meet a large selection of different owners and I consider how the various dogs and their humans have similar personalities. And lastly I tell of a recent visit to the hospitals new ultrasound suite which turned out to be a repurposed cupboard where no one had ever considered the need to fit a wheelchair in!

    Its too hot! The summer of 2026.

In which I recall the long hot summer of 2026 and why it good to have a hot tub especially if you don’t heat it up. Why it is not good to leave a spiky child’s toy at the bottom when sitting down fast, and how some people can stay in cold water forever. A thought about tattoos as no one was wearing very much in the heat. What and why people have tattoos and what I should get if I ever got around to having one. Summer ice cream. Comparing ice cream from my childhood to the weird and wonderful flavours available today. The joys of solar panels. How we enjoyed staring at the App as we made and used electricity, and why we lived on cake in the hottest months of the year.

    We're all going on a Cornish holiday.

I have a severe muscle wasting disease that limits my world to about four places I can sit, one of which is my powerchair. This podcast describes my whimsical take on the world sited on my bum. In this episode I talk about this summers family holiday to Cornwall, covering such topics as:- Being left a fly swat as a welcome gift at the holiday cottage. Wondering if there is such things as autistic cows. Local's bashed up cars v visitors shiny BMWs. It's all a game of chicken. The four major food groups of a Cornish diet. Fish and chips, pasties, fudge and cream teas. And finally a short review of how good Bude, Cornwall is if you are in a wheel chair.
