    Benjamin Taylor is the award-winning author of nine works of nonfiction and three works of fiction. His biography of Proust was listed as a best book of the year in the New York Times book review. His memoir, The Hue and Cry at Our House, received the Christopher Isherwood Prize, and was named a New York Times editor’s choice. He is a founding member of the graduate writing program faculty of the New School, and is a particularly beloved professor here at Columbia. Taylor has two forthcoming books. A novel, The Cloud of Knowing, will come out on January 12th. A biography of Susan Sontag is forthcoming in 2028. We’ll be talking about tumultuous upbringing in Fort Worth, Texas in the early 1960s, his experience being the best friend of Philip Roth, one of the greatest all-time American writers, and his masterfully executed forthcoming novel.
