The George Bernard Shaw Library presents the works of George Bernard Shaw in full: plays, prefaces, arguments, provocations, and all the inconvenient ideas respectable society might prefer to leave unopened. Shaw wrote to entertain, certainly. But also to irritate, unsettle, contradict, and make his audience think. Here you can hear his words as they were meant to unfold: not as quotations or summaries, but whole, alive, and given room to argue their case. Enter for the wit, stay for the trouble.

  1. Episode 1

The scene shifts to a mystical dialogue between Caesar and Cleopatra beside the Sphinx, blending dreams and realities as she musters courage to face the formidable Roman conqueror.

  2. Episode 2

    Caesar and Cleopatra Act 2

In which the young Ptolemy, under the watchful eye of his guardians and courtiers, faces the tumultuous demands of foreign power and domestic rivalry in the austere halls of Alexandria, where Julius Caesar arrives with a mixture of genial authority and strategic resolve. Against a backdrop of political intrigue, fiery conflicts, and spirited exchanges, the interplay of youthful ambition and seasoned command unfolds with jocular yet poignant gravity.

  3. Episode 3

    Caesar and Cleopatra Act 3

In which the busy quay before the Alexandrian palace becomes the stage for a spirited confrontation between Roman sentinels and the Queen's retinue, culminating in a daring and unconventional delivery of Cleopatra’s precious gifts to Caesar at the towering lighthouse. Meanwhile, amid tensions and looming battles, Caesar displays moments of melancholy, levity, and resolve, culminating in an audacious swim to the awaiting Roman fleet that marks the restless tide of fortune in this fateful encounter.
