    RVR Halloween 02: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986) | Apparently the First One Was Too Subtle

    For our Special Halloween Series, we’re working our way through the entire Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, scoring every movie and eventually (re)Ranking the whole damn thing. On Episode 2 of the Halloween Series, we tackle THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2 (1986). Tobe Hooper comes back 12 years later and decides subtlety is dead. There’s more blood, more chainsaws, more comedy, Dennis Hopper declaring war with power tools, and a family that somehow got even stranger. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first movie again, but better, it’s what happens when everybody involved decides restraint is overrated. The question: Is Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 an unhinged follow up that understood exactly what it wanted to be, or did somebody turn the first movie into a cartoon? Director: Tobe Hooper Writer: L. M. Over 85 years later, a black & white drama about a family struggling through the Great Depression doesn’t exactly scream Friday night movie. The question: Does The Grapes of Wrath still earn its reputation as one of the great American films, or has its importance outlived its entertainment value?
