The Incredible Story of How One Christmas Project Changed 400,000+ Children's Lives

What if one simple act of kindness could change the lives of nearly 450,000 children? Imagine being a child who has never slept in a bed—spending every night on the floor, on a pile of clothes, or in the backseat of a car. For many American children, this is a heartbreaking reality. In this episode of Inspire & Impact: The Podcast Interviews, host Daniel Rosenstein welcomes Luke Mickelson, founder of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that no child has to sleep on the floor. What started in 2012 as a small project building a single bunk bed in Idaho became a movement that has provided beds for nearly 450,000 children, according to Luke at the time of this interview. 🛏️ THE STORY THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING Luke shares the unforgettable experience of meeting Haley, a six-year-old girl who had never owned a bed. After spending nights sleeping in her mother’s car and later on a pile of school clothes, Haley received her very first bed. That emotional experience changed Luke’s life and inspired him to dedicate himself to helping children in need. 🎙️ IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL DISCOVER: • How one bunk bed sparked a nationwide movement.• The reality of child bedlessness in America and why families struggle to afford beds.• How Sleep in Heavenly Peace grew from one Idaho community to hundreds of chapters.• Why financial success doesn’t always bring happiness, fulfillment, or purpose.• How helping others can transform your own life.• Luke’s “Tiny Moments” philosophy—and how small acts of kindness create lasting change.• The personal sacrifices and leadership challenges of building a nonprofit.• How to take meaningful steps toward discovering your passion and purpose.• Ways to volunteer, donate, build beds, or start a local chapter. 💡 FINDING PURPOSE THROUGH SERVICE Finding your purpose doesn’t always require changing your entire life. Sometimes, it starts with noticing someone who needs help—and taking action. Luke’s journey shows how one person’s compassion and willingness to serve can inspire thousands of others. ❤️ HELP END CHILD BEDLESSNESS Sleep in Heavenly Peace builds, assembles, and delivers beds to children in need. Women’s Rights Are Human Rights: A Powerful Conversation with Zolal Habibi

What does it take to dedicate your life to standing up for women’s rights, equal rights, freedom, and human dignity? In this powerful episode of Inspire & Impact, Daniel Rosenstein sits down with Zolal Habibi, a human rights and women’s rights advocate of Iranian descent who has spent more than 25 years advocating for human rights and political change in Iran. For Zolal, this mission is deeply personal. Her father, an Iranian writer and political dissident, was killed when she was only seven years old. Rather than allowing tragedy to define her through anger or revenge, Zolal explains how love, compassion, perseverance, and a belief in something greater than herself have helped sustain her lifelong commitment. We discuss the importance of women’s rights in Iran and around the world, equal rights, women in leadership, political prisoners, freedom, and the importance of refusing to give up—even when change seems impossible. Zolal also shares a powerful lesson about dealing with anger and adversity: lasting change cannot simply be fueled by revenge. For her, love and compassion provide the positive energy necessary to keep moving forward. Our conversation also explores the extraordinary richness of Iranian and Persian culture. We discuss Persian poetry and thinkers such as Rumi and Sa'di, the importance of love and our shared humanity, and the long history of Iranian contributions to literature, art, philosophy, science, medicine, mathematics, astronomy, and culture. Above all, Zolal reminds us that each of us can make a difference. Her message is to stand for your principles, take responsibility, keep moving forward, and never give up. 🌎 LEARN MORE Zolal’s advocacy and the Iranian opposition movement discussed in this interview: National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI):https://ncr-iran.org/ NCRI on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/IranNCR/ X:https://x.com/Ashrafi4ever NCRI — Gender Equality & Women’s Rights:https://www.ncr-iran.org/en/gender-equality/ Learn more about women’s and human rights in Iran: UN Women:https://www.unwomen.org/ United Nations Human Rights Office:https://www.ohchr.org/ Explore the richness of Iranian and Persian history and culture: Encyclopaedia Iranica — an academic resource covering Iranian history, literature, art, science, religion, philosophy, and civilization:https://www.iranicaonline.org/ The Metropolitan Museum of Art — explore Persian and Iranian art and cultural history:https://www.metmuseum.org/ Persian civilization has influenced the world across centuries through poetry and literature, art and architecture, philosophy, medicine, mathematics, astronomy, scholarship, and scientific thought. Best Advice From an Award-Winning National Geographic Photographer & Coach

What happens when you finally achieve your biggest childhood dream—and realize it still doesn’t make you happy? In this powerful episode of Inspire & Impact, Daniel Rosenstein sits down with Jen Guyton, an award-winning National Geographic photographer, scientist, storyteller, and transformational coach, for a fascinating conversation about success, ambition, happiness, and discovering who you really are beyond your achievements. Jen spent years pursuing a dream she had carried since childhood: becoming a National Geographic photographer. After years working as a scientist and photographer in Africa, her work eventually led to a National Geographic assignment photographing spotted hyenas. She ultimately achieved one of the biggest milestones of her career—a National Geographic cover story. But something unexpected happened. After the excitement and congratulations faded, Jen realized she didn't feel fulfilled. She had accomplished what she thought would finally make her happy, yet she still felt stressed, anxious, and disconnected from herself. Jen calls this “the achievement trap”—the belief that once we get the career, recognition, money, relationship, house, or other accomplishment we've been pursuing, we'll finally feel happy and complete. Her experience taught her that external achievement may provide temporary validation, but it can't create lasting self-worth. In this conversation, Jen shares her remarkable journey from scientist to National Geographic photographer to transformational coach. She talks about working in Africa, photographing wildlife, coming within feet of a male lion, and taking the bold opportunities that helped launch her photography career. But the conversation goes much deeper than photography. Jen explains why she eventually had to slow down and discover who she was without her career defining her identity. She shares how therapy, self-reflection, spiritual exploration, and other experiences changed the way she viewed success and ultimately inspired her to become a coach. Today, Jen helps high achievers reconnect with themselves through what she calls the Rewild Method. Instead of simply adding more routines, habits, and self-improvement practices, her approach explores what beliefs, behaviors, expectations, and patterns can be removed so people can reconnect with what genuinely feels true to them. Jen also shares an important message for anyone who feels successful on the outside but unfulfilled on the inside: slow down, get honest about what's working and what isn't, and pay attention to the tension between what you think you should be doing and what you genuinely want. Whether you're an entrepreneur, executive, creative professional, photographer, or simply someone questioning what success really means, this conversation may help you look at ambition, happiness, and your own definition of a meaningful life differently. 🌿 CONNECT WITH JEN GUYTON Website & Coaching:https://www.wildbeyondcoaching.com/ Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/jenguytonphotography/ Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/jenguyton/ LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenguyton/ Substack:https://substack.com/@wildbeyond 🎙️ ABOUT INSPIRE & IMPACT Inspire & Impact features meaningful conversations with inspiring people who share their experiences, challenges, lessons, and insights to help others create positive change in their lives.
