    The Weight of Being the Strong One

    We don’t mind being the ones you call when life is LIFE-ING. 😭 We’ll listen, give advice, pray with you, hype you up, and help you figure it out. That’s just who we are. But DAMN… check on us too! 😂 In this episode of Split Perspectives, we’re talking about the unpaid full-time job of being the strong friend. The therapist. The fixer. The prayer warrior. The emergency contact. The “girl, what should I do?” hotline. Meanwhile, WE TIRED TOO. We’re getting into burnout, boundaries, people dumping their problems on you, feeling guilty for saying no, and why being “the strong one” does not mean you have unlimited emotional storage. Being strong doesn’t mean we don’t get tired. It doesn’t mean we always have the answers, and it definitely doesn’t mean we don’t need somebody to say, “Girl, I got you this time.” Sometimes the strong friend needs a strong friend too.     Different Shades, Different Stories

    Same culture. Different complexions. Very different experiences. In this episode of Split Perspectives, we’re getting into colorism in the Black community from both sides of the shade chart. One of us is light-skinned, the other is dark-skinned, and while we’ve shared a lot of the same spaces, the way we’ve been treated in those spaces hasn’t always been the same. We’re talking dating preferences, childhood experiences, beauty standards, “pretty for a dark-skinned girl,” light-skin stereotypes, favoritism, family comments, social media, and the things people swear “aren’t that deep”… when they absolutely can be. This isn’t about deciding who had it worse. It’s about being honest about how colorism can shape the way Black women see themselves AND each other. Two shades. Two experiences. No competition.     This is Not Where We Thought We Would Be!

    Welcome to the VERY FIRST episode of Split Perspectives!  So… remember that life plan we had? The one where we were supposed to have everything figured out by now? Yeah. About that…  In “This Is NOT Where We Thought We Would Be,” we’re talking about the expectations we had for adulthood versus the reality that actually showed up. Marriage, motherhood, careers, friendships, faith, goals, setbacks, starting over, and realizing that sometimes the vision board and God’s plan are NOT in the same group chat.  We’re getting honest about feeling behind, comparing our lives to everybody else’s highlight reel, and learning that being somewhere you didn’t expect doesn’t mean you’re in the wrong place. Expect laughs, a little chaos, some hard truths, and two best friends giving you completely different perspectives… because agreeing all the time was never really our thing.  Grab your drink, get comfortable, and come sit with us.
