Bonus: Rent-A-Cop Reboot — The Book Behind the Stories

Samuel Griffin III's book Rent-A-Cop Reboot: The Security Pro's Handbook is the book behind the stories — written in 2020 with Theresa M. Caldwell after a single phone call wiped out tens of thousands of dollars in contracts. In this bonus episode, Marcus and Darius unpack the mission to turn the slur "rent-a-cop" into "security professional," the dignity of the work, why your mouth is your best weapon, and the faith that holds it all together. Get the ebook direct from Samuel's store: https://payhip.com/b/EdFRM — print and Kindle on Amazon, audiobook on Chirp and Barnes & Noble. Music: Empire, produced by Tim Byrd

    Still Building

The finale of a 49-episode year (Sept 11, 2026 → Aug 13, 2027) looks back from "Stop Waiting, Start Moving" through advance work, the quiet professional, the COVID wipeout, the cancer testimony, and keep hope alive — with favorite moments (Jacqueline's sayings, the socks miracle, the Kenya home build, the split-second decision, the golden rule, the scared 12-year-old). Five lessons, Galatians 6:9, Philippians 1:6, Psalm 1:3, and a closing benediction: "I'm still here. I'm still believing. I'm still building." Warm, forward-looking, no cliffhanger. Keep Hope Alive

Rev. Jesse Jackson's "Keep hope alive," quoted in the preface of Samuel's book, frames hope as a leadership strategy rather than a feeling. The center is his 2021 stage 4 cancer testimony — Rev. Jackson's phone-call prayer in the Long Island room, Elder Peter Smith's prayers with oil, remission within a year — plus Romans 15:13, Hebrews 6:19, Psalm 42:11, and Luke 12:48 from his "God Gave Me Another Chance" blog. Hope doesn't say the storm isn't real; it says the storm isn't final. Music: Empire, produced by Tim Byrd

    Prepare for the Extraordinary

March 2020 wiped out tens of thousands in contracts with one phone call — Samuel bought PPE for his guards, called every creditor, got the SBA PPP loan, and instituted down-payment policies. Through Joseph's storehouses (Genesis 41), Proverbs 21:20, and the ant of Proverbs 6, the episode makes crisis readiness an advance-work business habit. It closes the loop with the good kind of extraordinary: the prepared mid-1990s hotel-lobby meeting with Rev. Jesse Jackson's security chief. Music: Empire, produced by Tim Byrd

    Guard Your Heart

From the "Securing your Private Life" section of Rent-A-Cop Reboot, this episode turns protection inward: the leader's heart and household are the principal, everything else is the perimeter. Grounded in Proverbs 4:23, 1 Timothy 5:8, and Joshua 24:15, plus Samuel's childhood vow — growing up watching his father hurt his mother — to protect his own family. The conviction: a leader who protects everyone except his own household has it backwards. Music: Empire, produced by Tim Byrd

    Never Stop Growing

From "Stay at the Top of Your Game" and "Increasing Your Skill Set and Thinking": the day you stop learning is the day you start declining, and coasting is declining with better scenery. Across thirty years Samuel kept learning — certifications, the lost-credentials lesson in New York, communication as a weapon, crisis leadership in 2020, and becoming a humble beginner again in publishing — upgrading his thinking, not just his skills. 2 Timothy 2:15 and Proverbs 9:9 anchor it ("the fool is full, the wise man is hungry"), with four habits: learn from every mistake by asking "what is the tuition," invest in training like equipment, stay teachable (especially to younger people), and teach what you learn. Integrity in the Operations

From Chapter 4 of Rent-A-Cop Reboot: integrity is not just a character trait but a system — paperwork, written procedures, and honest client conversations; paperwork is memory, and the engine room is worship. The customer is NOT always right when safety is at stake: "The moment you lose the trust of those around you is the moment your business will start to decline," so say no to protect your success. Proverbs 10:9 and 11:1 frame it all, with three habits: write it down (if it's not written, it's a wish), have the honest conversation early, and be willing to say the hard no. Eyes Wide Open

On a commercial flight with a celebrity client, Samuel noticed a passenger calling radio stations while impersonating the client; he observed, verified the pattern, alerted the captain, and police met the plane at the layover. Anchored in 1 Peter 5:8 ("Be sober, be vigilant") and Matthew 10:16 ("wise as serpents, and harmless as doves"): instincts are data, verified before acting, and escalated through the right channels. Leaders learn not to explain away warning signs — the courage to look foolish beats the catastrophe of silence — with three habits: notice the unusual, trust instincts then verify, and speak up calmly to the person with authority to act.
