Why Creeds, Confessions, and Catechisms? | Catechesis Ep. 008

This episode addresses the theological necessity of creeds, confessions, and catechisms by affirming the sufficiency of Scripture while distinguishing it from the church's responsibility to preserve and teach revealed truth. It argues that these doctrinal standards are not additions to the Bible but human instruments that help the church articulate, defend, and transmit the faith, citing passages like 2 Timothy 1:13-14 and 1 Timothy 3:15-16. The episode clarifies the definitions and subordinate authority of these documents, emphasizing that they must always remain under the supreme authority of the Holy Spirit speaking in Scripture. The episode further explores the historical context of these standards, from the early church's rule of faith to the Westminster Confession, highlighting their role in guarding against error and fostering doctrinal unity. Finally, it encourages believers to use these tools for personal growth, family discipleship, and congregational integrity, ensuring that sound doctrine leads to living faith rather than dead orthodoxy.

How Should Christians Read the Bible? | Catechesis Ep. 007

This episode instructs believers on the proper approach to reading the Bible, emphasizing that Scripture is God-breathed and must be received with reverence and dependence on the Holy Spirit for saving understanding. It argues against making personal impressions the primary authority, instead advocating for careful observation, contextual interpretation, and synthesis with the whole of Scripture. The episode highlights the necessity of distinguishing between intellectual knowledge and spiritual illumination, urging Christians to seek the original meaning of the text rather than imposing their own preferences. By examining passages like 2 Timothy 3 and Nehemiah 8, the episode demonstrates that faithful reading leads to a response of belief, obedience, and joy. Ultimately, the episode calls for a disciplined, prayerful engagement with God's Word within the life of the church, aiming for transformation and fruitfulness in daily life.

What Is the Bible? | Catechesis Ep. 006

This episode explores the theological identity of the Bible, arguing that it is not merely a human religious text but the authoritative Word of God. By examining 2 Timothy 3:14-17 and 2 Peter 1:19-21, the episode clarifies that while human authors wrote the scriptures, the Holy Spirit sovereignly guided them, resulting in a text that is both genuinely human and divinely inspired. The episode emphasizes that the Bible's authority is grounded in God's nature rather than church tradition or human consensus, serving as the sole rule for faith and obedience. It further outlines the practical implications of this doctrine, urging believers to hear, read, believe, submit to, and teach Scripture as the means by which God makes them wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

How Do We Know What Is True? | Catechesis Ep. 005

This episode addresses the cultural claim that truth is subjective by arguing that objective truth exists because God created both reality and the human capacity to know it. Drawing primarily from Psalm 19 and Romans 1, the episode explains that while general revelation through creation leaves humanity without excuse, fallen humans often suppress this truth due to sin and a desire for autonomy. The episode contrasts this with special revelation in Scripture and the person of Jesus Christ, who is identified as the ultimate embodiment of truth. It concludes by encouraging believers to approach knowledge with humility, confidence in God's word, and a desire for worship, rather than treating truth as a matter of personal preference or intellectual independence.

What Is A Christian? | Catechesis Ep. 004

This episode defines a Christian not by external markers such as doctrine, baptism, or moral behavior, but by the fundamental reality of belonging to Jesus Christ. It argues that true conversion involves the Holy Spirit effectually applying Christ's redemption to spiritually dead sinners, resulting in a new union with Him. The episode emphasizes that salvation is entirely by grace through faith, distinguishing saving faith from mere intellectual assent or cultural association. Consequently, this union with Christ becomes the source of justification, adoption, and sanctification, transforming the believer's identity and motivating obedience. The episode concludes by affirming that this belonging to Christ provides ultimate hope and defines the Christian life as a communal discipleship rooted in the resurrection.

The Chief End of Man | Catechesis Ep. 003

This episode explores the central theological claim that humanity's ultimate purpose is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever, as summarized in the Westminster Shorter Catechism. It argues that human beings do not create their own meaning but receive it from the Creator, establishing that all aspects of life, from ordinary activities to profound suffering, are ordered toward God's glory. The teaching distinguishes between intrinsic glory, which God possesses in Himself, and ascribed glory, which creatures acknowledge, while correcting common errors such as the belief that God needs human affirmation or that Christian joy is merely emotional happiness. By examining Psalm 73 and the life of Christ as the faithful Second Adam, the episode demonstrates that true enjoyment of God remains constant even when earthly blessings are withdrawn. Ultimately, the episode calls believers to redirect their worship, vocation, and desires away from rival idols and toward the supreme good of God Himself.

Why Learn Christian Doctrine? | Catechesis Ep. 002

This episode of Catechesis addresses the common objection that theology is unnecessary for a relationship with Jesus, arguing instead that Christian doctrine is essential for knowing the true Christ and living faithfully. By examining passages in 2 Timothy, Ephesians, and Titus, the message explains that God intends His people to learn His truth to gain wisdom, stability, and maturity, so they are not tossed about by every wind of doctrine. The episode emphasizes that sound doctrine is not an end in itself but a means to know God, strengthen faith, shape worship, and protect believers from error. It further asserts that what Christians believe directly influences how they live, as biblical learning is meant to produce biblical living. Finally, the episode encourages believers to actively engage with Scripture and catechisms to receive, guard, and transmit the faith to the next generation.

What Is Catechesis? | Catechesis Ep. 001

This episode defines catechesis as the deliberate and systematic instruction of the Christian faith, arguing that it is essential for spiritual maturity and the continuity of the covenant community. It grounds this practice in the Great Commission, emphasizing that Jesus commands the church to make disciples through teaching, not merely conversion. The message highlights that without intentional biblical formation, believers are vulnerable to cultural influences and doctrinal instability, as illustrated by the contrast between children tossed by winds of doctrine and mature Christians grounded in truth. The episode outlines a generational purpose for faith, where believers receive, guard, and hand on the deposit of truth to the next generation. Ultimately, it calls for a shift from accidental theological assembly to a structured pursuit of knowing, living, and passing on the faith.
