The Clayface Pitch Outlived Everyone Who Said No #clayface

Clayface movie Clayface is the first horror movie DC Studios ever made, and it started as a pitch Mike Flanagan took to DC in 2021, got turned down, and pitched again two years later to a new DC run by two new people. They bought it, and then Flanagan was gone. A new writer, a new director in James Watkins, and a shoot in Liverpool standing in for Gotham. This DEVELOPING file asks whether the pitch is still in the movie that opens October 23, and puts a prediction on the record a full week before the reviews. The case runs through The Penguin, which proved a Batman villain story can work with no Batman in it, and through the two times that setup went wrong: Fox's Gotham and Joker: Folie a Deux. Then the comics. Basil Karlo in Detective Comics #40, Matt Hagen in Detective Comics #298, and the Batman: The Animated Series episode "Feat of Clay," the version of Clayface this movie is really built on, Roland Daggett and the Renuyu cream included. Then what DC Studios actually paid for: a $40 million budget, Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, Naomi Ackie as Dr. Caitlin Corr, Max Minghella as the cop in the middle, and producer Matt Reeves behind it. Against all of that sits James Gunn calling Clayface "very connected." Every pin goes on the corkboard with a date on it, and the board gets graded in public after the screening. Lanterns Hid One Card All Season. It Wasn't the One You Think #lanterns

Lanterns ending explained Lanterns called itself a face-up mystery and the Know-It-All Nation took it at its word: 24,072 comments, 9,516 of you, and 695 who named Hal Jordan's killer before the finale aired. This is the autopsy. Every card the show put on the table, the sheriff, the kid, the wife, and the one it held back until the last hand. Not a recap. A grade, with the receipts. The finale changed the Season 2 board too. John Stewart walked away from the Corps and from Sinestro with a ring that is not clean anymore, and that one detail has a precedent going back to Showcase 22 and straight through Green Lantern: Rebirth. We go through the five reads from last week's Files and lay out what the finale did to each one, including the Sinestro problem nobody is ready for. Then the part this room earned. The Know-It-All Awards for Lanterns Season 1: who called the sheriff two episodes early, who had the whole finale in one paragraph a week out, and who gets crowned Lord of the Lanterns. Likes counted for nothing. Good faith counted for everything. Your names are going somewhere permanent. Marvel Already Told You the Plot of the X-Men Movie #xmen

X-Men movie plot At D23, Marvel put six X-Men names on a stage, and Adam Driver came on by video with a joke about playing Magneto. Then he said his character's real name, Nathaniel Milbury, and the room kept laughing. For a month the internet argued about whether Samara Weaving is the right Emma Frost. Nobody looked up Milbury. I did, and it changes what this X-Men movie is about. Then read the X-Men cast in the order Marvel hired it: Sadie Sink's Jean Grey, Kit Connor's Scott Summers, Samara Weaving's Emma Frost, Christopher Abbott's Professor X, Maya Boyd's Storm, Inde Navarrette's Rogue and Asa Germann's Angel, with Jake Schreier directing. None of these picks is random, and the ones people are angriest about make the most sense once you see what they're for. This is the first episode of DEVELOPING, a new format for movies that are years out and arrive one announcement at a time. Every read on the X-Men movie goes on a board with a date on it, and every new name either sharpens the picture or breaks it. Watch to the end for the announcements that would prove me wrong, and put yours in the comments. The board is at knowitallnation.com/developing.
