The Media Gloryhole Podcast

We started off with a thought years ago: We sit in the garage and talk about music, movies and everything else media-related, maybe we should start a podcast. So, we came up with a plan, and now we talk about everything we watch and listen to, read and play, and we bring you our honest opinions and hopefully make you laugh along the way.Parental advisory: We curse and say funny things, and we make jokes along the way. We are not for the faint of heart. But we're fun. This should cover our ASSets.MediaGloryholePodcast@gmail.comPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/MGP850

EP 90A — Pieces of a Very Bad Idea

Send us Fan Mail Horror Month rolls into Week 3 with trailers, weird new releases, anime, haunted hotels, Italian insanity and a movie called Pieces that absolutely lives up to its reputation. 00:02:08 — RIP RJ Mitte A sad start with the passing of Breaking Bad actor RJ Mitte, his disability advocacy, reactions from his former castmates and the reminder that 34 is way too damn young. 00:07:23 — River Trailer Jane Levy heads into a backwoods survival/slasher setup involving siblings, their father’s ashes, a busted boat and a creepy bastard swimming toward them from shore. Trailer verdict: this looks pretty damn good. 00:08:25 — The Misadventures of Cliff Booth Brad Pitt’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood character gets his own movie, with David Fincher directing. That combination alone is enough to earn attention. 00:10:27 — Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew The new Narnia trailer looks promising, although casting Meryl Streep as Aslan leads to the important question: how exactly is that voice going to work? 00:11:53 — The Rescue Cowboy. Kidnapped daughter. Angry father going after the people who took her. Sometimes you really don’t need much more than that. LISTS 00:13:27 — 8 New Horror Movies Released This Week — Bloody Disgusting The weekly horror-release list brings us everything from Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence to Last Chance Motel, Vampire Carnival, Other Mommy, an R.L. Stine project and somehow a horror movie called Flush about a guy getting his head stuck in a toilet. 00:15:12 — Old Horror Website Beef Returns Mentioning Bloody Disgusting resurrects some old Horror Club-era rivalry involving Dread Central, Arrow in the Head and Bloody Disgusting. Apparently grudges age beautifully. 00:19:12 — Pan’s Labyrinth Returns to Theaters The 20th-anniversary rerelease sparks some Guillermo del Toro appreciation and memories of seeing it theatrically the first time around. 00:20:33 — Glorious A guy trapped in a rest-stop bathroom with an eldritch being on the other side of a glory hole still sounds like a terrible pitch — and somehow became a genuinely funny, creepy and emotional movie. Also, this predates the Media Gloryhole Podcast name. Probably. 00:22:00 — Bubba Ho-Tep Elvis and JFK fighting a soul-sucking mummy in a nursing home is another perfect example of a synopsis that sounds completely idiotic until somebody actually makes a damn good movie out of it. 00:24:01 — Media Glory Hole Funeral Homes Buy one burial, get one half off. Conveniently located next to Glory Hole Donuts. Come for the coffee, stay forever. OT 00:26:12 — Welcome to OT The off-topic segment accidentally gets an official name, which probably means it’s now legally binding. 00:26:59 — Hokum — Hulu Adam Scott plays a damaged, obnoxious author who heads to Ireland and gets tangled up with a haunted hotel and a witch. Creepy, solid and worth watching, but not quite an instant classic. Rating: 3/5 00:28:37 — Crystal Lake The Friday the 13th series goes into Jason and Pamela Voorhees’ backstory. It’s bloody, well-made and much stranger than expected, including some government-experiment mythology that somehow hasn’t completely pissed anybody off yet. 00:33:03 — Berserk — Crunchyroll Restarting from the Golden Age material clears up the backstory and immediately sends the series way up the anime rankings. War story, Griffith, Guts, horrifying violence, the Eclipse and a hard reminder that this is absolutely not for children. ITALIAN HORROR CHALLENGE — WEEK 3 00:43:58 — Pieces (1983) — Tubi The third Italian Horror Challenge delivers one of the month’s most gloriously stupid experiences: chainsaws, severed body parts, inexplicable kung-fu attacks, bizarre dialogue, ridiculous characters and an ending that somehow manages to get even dumber after the killer is already dealt with. 00:50:20 — Surprise Kung-Fu Attack A completely unrelated Bruce Lee knockoff wanders into Pieces, attacks an undercover cop, gets hit in the balls and then wanders back out of the movie. Cinema. 00:52:52 — The Pieces Ending A corpse made from stitched-together body parts suddenly grabs a guy by the crotch, and then the movie freeze-frames. Because apparently ending normally was never an option. 01:06:10 — Pieces Verdict Trashy? Absolutely. Stupid? Without question. Entertaining the entire time? Pretty much. Rating: 3.5/5 NEXT ITALIAN HORROR CHALLENGE 01:09:58 — Suspiria — Tubi Next week goes back to Dario Argento with the original Suspiria. Witches, Goblin soundtrack and two more weeks of Tony wondering how much Italian horror one human being is expected to endure. MGP MOMENTS 00:10:00 — Everybody Survives. Happy Ending. Just rewrite depressing movies in your head. 00:15:14 — Bloody Disgusting Beef Old grudges die harder than horror villains. 00:18:56 — Cheese Grater Review Scale A new benchmark for bad cinema. 00:21:35 — The Glory Hole Origin Story Maybe Glorious planted a seed. 00:24:17 — Glory Hole Funeral Homes 00:30:03 — Make It Make Sense The unofficial third MGP tagline. 00:43:01 — Invisible Man Costume An empty box for $79.99. 00:50:20 — Random Kung-Fu Attack 00:52:52 — Pieces Goes for the Crotch 01:10:52 — “I Don’t Know How Much More Italian Shit I Get.” Movies Music Mayhem If you want to get ahold of us drop us an Email at: MediaGloryholePodcast@gmail.com Check out the Playlists we create on our Music Spotify. https://open.spotify.com/user/31sj245qbnur6m4hrst5qsmuvbku?si=cc413ce13e894bb2 Getting Professional Check out our Link Tree. https://linktr.ee/mediagloryholepodcast Support the show on Buy Me a Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/mediagloryholepodcast Support the show

    EP 90B — REC, Raccoons & Rage

Send us Fan Mail Found Footage Week starts with two phenomenal Spanish horror movies, gets quietly creepy with Lake Mungo, then eventually turns into a prolonged argument with a Bigfoot movie and possibly the entire internet. FOUND FOOTAGE WEEK 01:13:56 — Found Footage Week Begins Week 3 officially starts after the Haunted Rentals break. Cameras shake, people make terrible decisions and somehow nobody ever thinks to stop recording. 01:14:31 — [REC] — Tubi The challenge movie absolutely delivers. Fast, nasty, claustrophobic and one of those found-footage movies where the camera actually has a reason to keep running. What starts looking like an infected/zombie movie slowly turns into something much darker, and the night-vision finale is exactly the kind of image that sticks with you. 01:25:47 — [REC] 2 — Tubi The sequel starts almost immediately after the first movie and pushes the mythology much harder. Same building, same nightmare, more explanation and somehow even more chaos. The two films feel so tightly connected that the question becomes whether they basically shot one giant movie and cut it in half. ~01:39 — V/H/S Mixtape — Shudder The latest V/H/S outing does not go well. A few decent ideas and plenty of talent involved, but the wraparound and most of the segments land flat. Rating: 1/5 — DO NOT WANT 01:42:54 — Lake Mungo — Tubi The complete opposite of [REC]. Quiet, documentary-like and almost entirely built on atmosphere instead of blood, action or jump scares. The whole movie just sits there making you uncomfortable, and that slow-burn unease turns out to be exactly why it works. 01:53:35 — Home Movie — Tubi Twin children acting increasingly wrong, a father recording family life and a story that slowly shifts from “these kids are creepy” into something unmistakably supernatural. Rating: 4/5 01:57:24 — Willow Creek — Tubi And here we go. One host remembers liking Bobcat Goldthwait’s Bigfoot movie. The other spends the next ten minutes explaining why a long tent scene, vague noises in the woods and an ending that could just as easily involve a mountain lion or pissed-off raccoon do not constitute a satisfying Bigfoot movie. 02:04:54 — The 45-Minute Cut of Willow Creek Suggested alternate version: Shut it off the second they set up the tent. Congratulations. The movie is fixed. 02:08:17 — Final Prayer / The Borderlands A Vatican investigation team checks out a supposed miracle in an old church, and things eventually head underground in a direction nobody should ever willingly crawl toward. A much better example of low-budget found footage using its limitations instead of fighting them. 02:16:23 — Never Crawl Lower Builder advice and horror advice finally become the same thing: If the only escape route requires crawling farther down into an ancient church basement, accept your fate upstairs. NEXT WEEK — ZOMBIE / INFECTED 02:18:37 — Zombie / Infected Week Found Footage Week ends and attention turns to zombies, rage viruses and whatever technical argument we feel like having about the difference. 02:20:15 — Challenge: The Sadness — Shudder Next week’s challenge is The Sadness: extremely violent, extremely nasty and chosen largely to see what kind of reaction it causes. Train to Busan is also firmly on the agenda. LISTS 02:27:29 — 18 Best Zombie Movies Ever Made — Esquire The list immediately becomes questionable when Train to Busan lands at #17 and Return of the Living Dead at #16. This is not received calmly. 02:37:19 — 24 Best Zombie Movies Ever Made — IndieWire A second list attempt includes Warm Bodies, Return of the Living Dead, Dead Alive, Zombieland, Dawn of the Dead, Train to Busan, Shaun of the Dead, Zombie, [REC], Re-Animator and Romero’s Dawn of the Dead at #1. The placement of Return of the Living Dead remains unacceptable. MGP MOMENTS 01:20:22 — Don’t Chase the Little Girl 01:23:36 — “Shut Up and Listen to the Tape.” 01:26:38 — REC 2 Starts About 30 Minutes Later 01:41:43 — V/H/S Mixtape Gets a 1/5 01:44:38 — 90 Minutes of Unease 01:55:15 — Having Kids Is Already Found Footage 01:58:02 — The Willow Creek Tent Scene 02:01:33 — “It’s the Babadook All Over Again.” 02:04:58 — Shut Willow Creek Off at 45 Minutes 02:16:23 — Never Crawl Lower 02:26:58 — “F**k Willow Creek.” 02:29:01 — Willow Creek Somehow Gets Added to the Zombie List 02:41:14 — Willow Creek 2: The Creekening 02:43:01 — Wrap-Up Found Footage Week somehow became the favorite week so far, despite one extremely angry exception. Zombie Week is next. EP 89 — France Talk & Flying Mannequins

Send us Fan Mail Foreign Horror Week delivers homicidal children, Korean monsters, Australian psychopaths and enough Italian sleaze to make Deep Red look restrained. 00:02:39 — News & RIP Mike Ditka A rough little news week starts with the passing of Mike Ditka and turns into a pretty great appreciation of the kind of old-school, no-b******t personality that probably doesn’t get manufactured anymore. 00:07:09 — Hurricane Easy E Nobody can pronounce the hurricane’s real name, so the internet does what it does and turns it into Hurricane Easy E. 00:08:05 — Exorcist: Martyrs Trailer The new Exorcist movie looks interesting, especially with the detective angle, even if nobody knows yet whether that means it’ll actually be good. 00:09:06 — Saw & Paranormal Activity Are Still Alive Both franchises are moving forward again. At this point, if you’re still here, you already know exactly what you signed up for. 00:10:32 — Friday the 13th Rant Jason X slander will not be tolerated. Neither will pretending the 2009 remake deserves the beating it gets. 00:14:32 — Ted Lasso Season 4 Finale — Apple TV A very good, very emotional season finale and another reminder that once you buy into characters, TV can kick you in the chest just as hard as anything else. ITALIAN HORROR CHALLENGE — WEEK 2 00:23:29 — Torso (1973) — Tubi Italian Horror Challenge Week 2 gets significantly sleazier. The easiest explanation: it sometimes feels like somebody tried to shoot porn, couldn’t get the permit, and pivoted to a horror movie instead. Somehow that is also part of the charm. Compared with Deep Red, this one lands much better: shorter, nastier, easier to watch and way less interested in pretending it isn’t exploitation. 00:28:12 — The Flying Mannequin One of the great unintentional comedy moments of Horror Month: a dramatic childhood flashback ends with someone very obviously launching a dummy off a cliff. 00:31:17 — Finish Carpenter Reviews European Doors Skeleton keys, enormous door gaps and a brief professional assessment of why Tony would be unemployed if he installed doors like that. 00:48:59 — Media Glory Hole Meat Market Plenty of sausage. Apparently absolutely no shame. FOREIGN HORROR WEEK 00:50:16 — Foreign Horror Begins 00:51:21 — Them (Ils) — Shudder / AMC+ The Week 2 challenge is the French home-invasion movie Them. Creepy, stripped down, short and mean without going full Martyrs. The movie especially sticks the landing once the story heads underground and the truth about the attackers becomes clear. Two weeks of challenge movies, two wins. 01:10:26 — The Host — Prime Video Bong Joon Ho’s monster movie finally gets watched. Funny, political, sad and just weird enough to feel unmistakably Korean. The verdict: very good, but that ending hurts. 3.5/5. 01:23:08 — Wolf Creek — Tubi Australian outback horror built around one of the nastier screen psychopaths in Mick Taylor. Isolation, torture and the uncomfortable realization that Australia is a terrible place to have car trouble. 01:23:08 — Wolf Creek 2 — Tubi The sequel leans even harder into Mick, and may actually be the stronger movie simply because it gives him more room to be completely insane. 01:32:58 — Carrie — Prime Video Mike Flanagan’s new eight-episode Carrie series gets binged immediately. The reaction is mixed: very well made and interesting, but some of the added mythology and Dark Tower connective tissue feels like it’s fighting with the original story. NEXT WEEK — FOUND FOOTAGE 01:41:39 — Week 3: Found Footage Challenge: REC — Tubi The Spanish classic is next. Bonus Challenge: REC 2 — Tubi Not technically required, but strongly encouraged. Both are short, and Part 2 might somehow be even crazier. ITALIAN HORROR CHALLENGE — WEEK 3 01:42:50 — Pieces (1983) — Tubi Less traditional giallo, more completely unhinged Italian horror. It was controversial, sleazy as hell and apparently the next logical step after Torso. LISTS 01:46:13 — 10 Found Footage Horror Movies That Were Almost Perfect — Collider https://collider.com/found-footage-horror-movies-almost-perfect/ ~01:55 — 20 Best Found Footage Horror Movies — ScreenRant https://screenrant.com/best-found-footage-horror-movies/ 02:01:34 — 10 of the Scariest Found Footage Movies Streaming on Tubi — Dread Central https://www.dreadcentral.com/news/427049/10-of-the-scariest-found-footage-movies-streaming-on-tubi/ 02:07:15 — The Horror Club’s Best of Found Footage An old personal Horror Club list comes out of retirement with Blair Witch, Lake Mungo, Noroi, REC, Troll Hunter, The Poughkeepsie Tapes and plenty more. MGP MOMENTS 00:07:15 — Hurricane Easy E Weather reporting finally reaches its proper hip-hop form. 00:10:40 — “I Hope a House Drops on You” The official response to anyone claiming Jason X is the worst Friday the 13th movie. 00:12:56 — Friday the 13th Budget Meeting “Twenty bucks, a pack of bubble gum and a hockey mask. Let’s do this.” 00:16:38 — Tony Is Already Ready to Rewatch Attack on Titan Absolutely no recovery period whatsoever. 00:23:20 — Pants Down During the Commercial Break The bumper returns and immediately creates another HR violation. 00:25:00 — Torso Was Supposed to Be Porn Not proven. Still an alarmingly believable theory. 00:28:12 — Giuseppe Launches the Dummy Italian tragedy meets low-budget physics. 00:31:17 — Professional Door Inspection The finish carpenter cannot let the giant skeleton-key door gap go unchallenged. 00:49:47 — Media Glory Hole Beanie Weenie The Meat Market immediately loses whatever dignity it had left. 00:51:51 — “France Talk” The preferred technical term for French. 01:07:44 — Close the Bus Door After Them, nobody is stopping for a bunch of creepy kids coming out of the woods. 01:16:53 — The Host Gets 3.5/5 Good monster movie. Brutal ending. South Korea once again refuses to let anyone leave happy. 01:26:21 — Wolf Creek 2 Might Be Better More Mick Taylor apparently solves a surprising number of sequel problems. 01:43:42 — “Why Do We Need This Podcast Anymore?” A fair question. Immediately rejected. 01:57:34 — ScreenRant Declares War The website’s ad system becomes the real horror movie of the episode. 02:11:19 — Found Footage Is More Than Blair Witch A whole pile of recommendations proves there’s a lot more to the genre than the two or three titles everybody already knows. EP 88 — Horror Month Comes Out Swinging

Send us Fan Mail Horror Month is officially underway: new anime, bad-movie memories, demon possession, classic Hellraiser, Deep Red, and the first real round of October challenges. 00:03:07 — RIP Kronos A quick remembrance of Kronos, lead singer of Venom, and a little love for one of the bands that helped shape extreme metal. 00:04:54 — Godzilla Minus Zero Trailer The final trailer drops, early word sounds extremely strong, and plans start forming to get a group together for the theater. 00:06:08 — Fast & Furious TV Series Peacock apparently decided the Fast & Furious universe still has miles left on it. The reaction is… less than enthusiastic. 00:07:37 — Bad Movies at a Memorial A memorial service turns into the perfect excuse to revisit some gloriously terrible movies, including The Apple and Creatures from the Abyss — aka Plankton. The old bad-movie-club energy comes right back. ANIME 00:12:01 — Overgeared — Crunchyroll Jason finds a brand-new anime first for once. A struggling gamer gets knocked back to level zero but gains the ability to craft god-tier equipment, which is enough to make the first episode worth following. 00:15:30 — Berserk Three episodes in and already getting introduced to Guts, extreme violence, emotional damage, and the fact that the anime community apparently takes forgetting the title personally. 00:16:55 — Ghost Stories — Prime Video The October secret anime project is finally revealed. The English dub is the whole point: chaotic, offensive, completely unrestrained and somehow brilliant. 00:23:11 — Weekly Question of the Week What are we actually hoping to get out of 31 Days of Horror? Mostly: find something great we haven’t seen before and see how the challenge movies land. 00:27:17 — Media Glory Hole Haunted Rentals The first Halloween commercial break arrives with cursed VHS tapes, possessed dolls, suspicious cabinets and a flashlight guaranteed to fail when you need it. And somehow “flashlight” immediately becomes “fleshlight.” HORROR MONTH — WEEK 1 00:30:18 — Backrooms — HBO Max A feature-length trip into the liminal nightmare. The movie takes the internet concept and turns it into a creepy psychological story with enough bizarre imagery to actually get under the skin. 00:37:10 — The Furious (2025) — Hulu The transcript identifies this as the Indonesian action movie. A mute father goes after the traffickers who took his daughter, and the movie eventually turns into a full-on stunt and martial-arts showcase. 00:57:47 — The Pope’s Exorcist — Hulu Russell Crowe rides into demon territory on a Vespa and somehow makes it work. Better than expected, fun as hell, and rated 4/5 in the discussion. 01:05:45 — Hellraiser — Prime Video Back to Clive Barker, Doug Bradley and the Cenobites. Still grimy, sexual, ugly, mythic and one of the stronger demon movies ever made. 01:05:45 — Hellbound: Hellraiser II — Prime Video Watched as part of the same double feature. The mythology expands, Hell opens up, and the first two movies remain the high point of the series. 01:12:14 — The Exorcist — Blu-ray The director’s-cut Blu-ray gets another spin, and the verdict hasn’t changed much: fifty years later, it still belongs in the conversation for greatest horror film ever made. 01:23:22 — When Evil Lurks — Shudder The Week 1 challenge lands hard. Modern possession horror, brutal atmosphere, and one of those movies that earns an immediate trip online afterward just to see how everybody else reacted. ITALIAN HORROR CHALLENGE 01:26:20 — Deep Red — Shudder The first real stop in the Italian horror challenge and a crash course in giallo. Beautifully shot, historically important, wildly stylized…and not exactly Tony’s favorite. The big issue: at over two hours, the movie keeps building momentum and then wandering off somewhere else. The craft gets respect; the pacing does not. HORROR MONTH — WEEK 2 01:39:37 — Foreign Horror Week Week 2 opens the door to anything outside American horror: different folklore, different filmmaking styles, different cultural rules, and hopefully some new nightmares. Challenge Movie: Them (Ils) — AMC+/Shudder A French home-invasion movie from the New French Extremity era. The warning is simple: don’t read anything about it first. Italian Horror Challenge: Torso — Tubi A nastier, seedier Italian horror pick that may land better after Deep Red. LISTS 01:50:23 — 47 Best Italian Horror Movies of All Time — Rotten Tomatoes https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/guide/best-italian-horror-movies-of-all-time/ 01:59:07 — 10 Most Underrated European Horror Movies, Ranked — Collider https://collider.com/underrated-european-horror-movies-ranked/ 02:05:13 — 16 Best International Horror Movies of All Time — ScreenRant https://screenrant.com/best-international-horror-movies-of-all-time/ MGP MOMENTS 00:04:06 — Irish vs. Italian Horror Heritage Apparently Giallo Month means Tony is legally required to embrace the Italian side. 00:07:07 — Fast & Furious Should Have Ended Too One of the more merciless reactions to the TV-series news. 00:09:43 — The Real Star of Creatures from the Abyss The infamous lamp makes its triumphant return. 00:11:32 — The Room Almost Killed the Podcast Bad movies are supposed to be fun. The Room remains evidence that sometimes they are simply punishment. 00:15:18 — Jason Finally Wins Anime A genuinely historic moment: Jason watched a new anime before Tony. 00:20:01 — Ghost Stories Can’t Be Quoted Safely Every episode has about twenty lines worth repeating and almost none of them should be repeated in polite company. 00:28:23 — Haunted Fleshlight Rentals One misunderstood word immediately destroys the commercial break. 00:30:02 — Backdoor Burglars Word retrieval briefly fails spectacularly before Backrooms is remembered. 00:39:08 — The Furious Is Exhausting in the Best Way The stunt work gets so relentless that watching it starts to feel physically tiring. 01:14:31 — Horror Mount Rushmore The argument that The Exorcist doesn’t just belong among the greats — it might be the top of the mountain. 01:25:12 — “We Are the Tool” Media Glory Hole Hardware probably should not be trusted with actual construction materials. 01:28:17 — Deep Red Verdict “I didn’t like this movie.” Well. That gets the Italian Horror Challenge started cleanly enough. 01:37:22 — Deep Red Is Edging Me A remarkably accurate complaint about a movie repeatedly building momentum and then stopping dead. 01:49:42 — Already in Progress The bumper lands perfectly and immediately creates an imaginary conversation nobody heard. 02:04:25 — Collider Actually Did Good A European horror list gets the rare official seal of approval. EP 87 — Thriller Month Dies Silent

Send us Fan Mail We wrap up Thriller Month, get into some anime, and then hand the keys over to Horror Month with five weeks of challenges, Italian horror, and some questionable decisions. 00:01:34 — Oreo Hell Somebody is charging $60 for four deep-fried Oreos, which immediately becomes less of a food story and more of a discussion about what the hell is wrong with people on the internet. 00:05:43 — RIP Pete Byrne A quick remembrance of Naked Eyes lead singer Pete Byrne and some music nostalgia. 00:12:37 — Death Note The latest anime project gets complicated. Death Note is good, Light is already getting on the nerves, L is creepy in a good way, and Attack on Titan may have permanently raised the bar too high. 00:16:04 — Vinland Saga — Netflix Still working through Vinland Saga in the background while trying to figure out what direction the anime rabbit hole goes next. THRILLER MONTH — FINAL ROUND 00:18:20 — Monster — Tubi A Korean thriller with a creepy killer and a very unconventional final girl. Some of the tonal shifts are a little strange, but when it gets intense, it works. 00:18:48 — Midnight — Prime Video A deaf woman and her mother become targets after crossing paths with a killer. Strong suspense when it settles in, even if the tonal shifts don’t always land. 00:20:28 — The Girl in the Spider’s Web — Starz Claire Foy takes over as Lisbeth Salander. Not terrible, but coming after the Swedish films and Fincher’s version leaves it feeling like a step down. 00:21:48 — No Exit — Hulu Blizzard, roadside shelter, kidnapped kid, and a setup that should work better than it does. Well made, but a little too telegraphed. Rating: 3/5. 00:22:25 — The Invitation — Tubi The dinner-party slow burn gets revisited. One of us still likes the psychological buildup; the other finds it too predictable and trope-heavy. 00:23:46 — The Woman in Cabin 10 — Netflix Keira Knightley, a luxury boat, a possible murder, and a mystery that starts to work before giving away too much too early. 00:30:10 — Black Sheeps Trailer Yes, apparently Black Sheep is getting a sequel called Black Sheeps, and that is enough to put a little joy back into the world. Also: somebody is finally getting challenged to watch the original. 00:33:45 — Completely Unnecessary Bumper The new break bumper finally gets used exactly as intended: unnecessarily. HORROR MONTH 00:34:32 — Horror Month Begins October is here, and this year we’re not just grabbing random horror movies. We’re running five weekly themes, challenge movies, and a month-long Italian horror side quest. 00:39:33 — Week 1: Demon / Possessed Demons, possession, exorcisms and anything else that feels spiritually unhealthy. Challenge Movie: When Evil Lurks — Shudder 00:40:04 — Week 2: Foreign Horror Get outside American horror and see what everybody else has been doing to traumatize people. 00:40:26 — Week 3: Found Footage Cameras shake. People make bad decisions. Somebody keeps filming long after they absolutely should have stopped. 00:40:52 — Week 4: Zombie / Infected Zombie, infected, rage virus — whatever technical argument we want to have, if everybody is eating everybody else, it probably counts. 00:41:31 — Week 5: Classic / Halloween Standards Not necessarily old movies — the movies that feel essential when Halloween rolls around. Halloween, The Exorcist, The Shining, The Lost Boys, whatever belongs in your personal Halloween rotation. 00:42:34 — Tony’s Italian Horror Challenge A month-long run through Italian horror classics, with one movie revealed each week. Week 1: Deep Red — Tubi Dario Argento kicks things off. LISTS 00:54:47 — The 35 Best Demonic Possession Horror Movies — Collider A list to help kick off Week 1, including Evil Dead (2013), When Evil Lurks, Saint Maud, The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Fallen, Demons, House, Evil Dead II, The Exorcist III, Sinister, Drag Me to Hell and more. 01:06:52 — Best New Horror Movies of 2026 A second list turns into a look at newer horror worth catching as October gets rolling. UPCOMING / WHAT WE’RE WATCHING 01:06:59 — The Backrooms — HBO One that has been sitting on the radar and may get added to the first week of Horror Month. Obsession Also getting added to the pile even though it doesn’t neatly fit one of the weekly categories. Horror Month is a guide, not homework. MGP MOMENTS 00:03:49 — Deep Fry Yourself to Hell For $60, apparently the smarter financial decision is buying enough Oreos and pancake batter to kill yourself at home. 00:04:30 — Oreo Hell The segment officially names itself. 00:13:18 — Ryuk Saves Death Note Light is irritating. L is creepy. Ryuk is doing just fine. 00:21:17 — We May Have Done Thriller Month Backwards Three weeks of top-tier movies followed by the “pretty good” pile might not have been the ideal strategy. 00:31:19 — Black Sheep Math “Stupid and silly and absurd.” “Then it’s a 10 out of 5.” 00:34:32 — October Is Here The second half officially becomes the Horror Month planning meeting. 00:40:46 — Our ChatGPTs Are Apparently Married AI collaboration reaches a deeply unnecessary new level. 00:45:23 — Not So Bad Movie Month After The Room, there may be nowhere lower left to go. 00:53:03 — Toy Story for the 80s Asked whether there were movies like Toy Story when we were kids: “Yeah. It was called Puppet Master.” 00:59:02 — Italian Horror Is Apparently Genetic Watching Demons described as basically attending a family reunion. 01:29:17 — The Horror Challenge Becomes a Parts List The challenge list gets folded up and shoved into a pocket like we’re heading back to the jobsite. EP 87 — Thriller Month Dies Silent
  6. Sep 19

EP 86 — Thrillers, Transformers & Tommy Wiseau

Send us Fan Mail 00:01:39 — Lions Two games, one win, one beating, and the realization that the secondary needs help immediately. 00:05:03 — Airport Clip / Busted Punk A viral airport confrontation turns into a discussion about running your mouth, crossing lines, and finding out the hard way that some people are done arguing. 00:08:01 — Widow’s Bay Widow’s Bay reportedly takes home 14 Emmys, which turns into more praise for the show and another reminder that Apple TV’s smaller library has some damn good stuff. 00:11:01 — Horror Month Ideas October planning starts early: horror scorecards, blind picks, movie challenges, dice, the hat, and trying to figure out a way to make Horror Month more than just “watch a bunch of horror movies.” 00:15:28 — Horror Music Ideas Instead of a normal music draw, October may lean into horror themes, creepy soundtrack cuts and songs tied to horror movies. 00:21:04 — Supergirl — HBO Millie Alcock as Supergirl, Jason Momoa as Lobo, some fun stuff, some goofy stuff, and one needle drop that absolutely does not work. Rating: 3.5/5. 00:23:57 — The Room (2003) — Tubi We finally did it. After years of hearing about Tommy Wiseau’s legendary disaster, we watched The Room together and recorded a real-time commentary track. The football. The sex scenes. The dialogue. Lisa. Johnny. None of it makes any sense, and somehow that still doesn’t explain how strange this movie is. 00:44:41 — Transformers: The Movie (1986) — In Theaters — 40th Anniversary A big-screen 40th anniversary screening of Transformers: The Movie, plus a Peter Cullen tribute and one more reminder of how hard this movie still hits for people who grew up with it. 00:56:33 — L.A. Confidential — Prime Video The long-awaited first watch finally happens. Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kevin Spacey, Kim Basinger, Danny DeVito and one of the strongest noir mysteries of the 90s. 01:09:20 — Transcendence — Tubi Johnny Depp, AI, digital immortality and a movie that feels a little more relevant now than it did when it came out. Rating: 4/5. 01:15:12 — Munich — Prime Video Spielberg’s 2005 thriller about the aftermath of the 1972 Munich Olympics attack and the covert retaliation that follows. Heavy subject, great cast, and a movie built around revenge, consequence and moral fallout. 01:18:49 — The Social Network — Apple The Fincher rabbit hole continues with Facebook, Zuckerberg, Aaron Sorkin dialogue and another reminder that David Fincher’s filmography is ridiculously consistent. 01:21:08 — The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo — Netflix Fincher, Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig take us back into the world of Lisbeth Salander. A dark mystery that leads directly into revisiting the original Swedish versions. 01:23:35 — Millennium — Prime Video The six-part Swedish miniseries version of the Millennium trilogy. Two episodes per story, covering The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest. 01:30:26 — Sleepers — Tubi A 1996 favorite with Brad Pitt, Jason Patric, Billy Crudup, Ron Eldard, Kevin Bacon and a subject heavy enough that this one comes with a real “watch with caution” warning. 01:40:20 — Vinland Saga — Netflix The first three episodes are in. A slower burn than the more supernatural anime stuff, but the historical angle is working so far. LISTS 01:43:55 — 15 Hidden Gem Thrillers on Tubi You Should Watch — Blood Star Movie https://bloodstarmovie.com/hidden-gem-thrillers-on-tubi/ 01:55:32 — 10 Movies That Are Almost as Bad as The Room, Ranked — Collider https://collider.com/movies-almost-as-bad-as-the-room-ranked/ MGP MOMENTS 00:02:06 — “We were the power bottom.” The Lions recap reaches its natural conclusion almost immediately. 00:12:41 — Horror Month Scorecard Points for great kills, genuine scares and twists. Negative points for stupid decisions and “why the hell would you do that?” moments. 00:16:33 — Captain Howdy Possible parenting advice for Horror Month: if you ever meet someone named Captain Howdy, run. 00:24:38 — “Back before we were a glory hole...” A sentence that needed immediate clarification. 00:26:49 — The Room Sex Scenes We attempt to understand the geography. We fail. 00:28:01 — Why Is Everyone Throwing a Football? Arguments, tuxedos, alleys — apparently every emotional crisis in The Room can be solved by tossing a football. 00:30:17 — The Never Again List The Room starts threatening movies we previously swore we would never watch again. 00:44:41 — Transformers on the Big Screen The 40th anniversary turns into nostalgia, Peter Cullen and a movie that still knows exactly where to hit. 01:15:01 — The Room Nearly Claims the TV “I almost sold my TV and just said we’ve done enough.” 01:40:20 — “Inland Saga” Word takes one last shot at anime transcription. Vinland Saga survives. 01:55:43 — Collider vs. The Room A list of movies supposedly almost as bad as The Room immediately starts a fight with the list itself. EP 85 — Thrillers, Trauma & Terrible Decisions

Send us Fan Mail 00:01:04 — Patreon Patreon gives MGP the boot without much of an explanation. The episode starts calmly and reasonably. 00:02:39 — The Immersive Dome A look at the new Cosm-style immersive venue, giant dome screens, concerts, movies and sports — followed quickly by sticker shock over some of the ticket prices. 00:05:15 — Jason’s Birthday A surprise birthday gift: two Lions tickets, 50-yard line, lower bowl. Jason immediately realizes he may have to rearrange work. 00:07:11 — Stevie Wonder The 50th anniversary tour comes up, along with the increasingly painful reality of concert ticket prices. 00:08:52 — Oreo Taste Test Deep Fried Oreos: not bad. Banana Oreos: surprisingly okay. Chicken & Waffles Oreos: a mistake against nature. 00:14:38 — The Runner — Prime Video Both of us finally suffer through The Runner. Bad camera work, a telegraphed plot, Gal Gadot running for what feels like an eternity, and the mystery of how this thing got made. Final verdict: 1/5, mostly because people technically completed a movie. 00:28:03 — Challenge: The Room — Tubi Next week’s challenge is set: Tommy Wiseau’s legendary The Room. The only real question is whether Tommy Wiseau and Gal Gadot are secretly related. 00:31:56 — Eddie and the Cruisers — YouTube A mediocre movie with a great soundtrack. John Cafferty does most of the heavy lifting. Roughly 2/5, but the music and vibe still make it worth talking about. THRILLER MONTH 00:37:11 — The Usual Suspects — Prime Video Kevin Spacey, noir atmosphere and one of the great mystery endings. Spoiler warning applies heavily here. Around 4–4.5/5 territory. 00:42:36 — L.A. Confidential — Prime Video Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kevin Spacey, Kim Basinger, Danny DeVito and a stacked cast. A top-tier noir mystery and one of the strongest movies discussed this month. 00:45:24 — Football The NFL season gets underway and fantasy football immediately begins inflicting emotional damage. 00:47:36 — The Pledge — Prime Video A quieter, darker Sean Penn mystery starring Jack Nicholson. Less about flashy action and more about watching obsession and dread slowly take over. 01:00:35 — Mickey Rourke A detour into Mickey Rourke’s career, charisma, The Wrestler, The Expendables, 9½ Weeks, Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man, and why his short scene in The Pledge still hits. 01:06:05 — Awards / L.A. Confidential L.A. Confidential’s Academy Award wins lead into a wider rant about award shows, prestige TV and what actually gets recognized. LISTS 01:09:47 — 8 of the Weirdest Mystery & Thriller Movies of All Time — Murder & Mayhem https://murder-mayhem.com/weirdest-mystery-thriller-movies 01:17:21 — 35 Best Modern Thrillers The transcript names the list, but does not clearly identify the website/source. MGP MOMENTS 00:05:50 — “So I could just quit.” Jason’s first practical solution to getting the Lions game off work. 00:10:42 — Chicken & Waffle Oreo Face A cookie creates immediate regret. 00:17:07 — Oreo vs. The Runner “What is worse, that Oreo or The Runner?” 00:22:03 — The Real Mystery “The only mystery is how the f**k this got made.” 00:24:48 — Bad Movie vs. S****y Movie Sinbad can be bad and still fun. The Runner is something else entirely. 00:25:24 — 84 Minutes That Felt Like Three Hours The Runner officially begins warping time. 00:31:17 — Eat the Oreos or Watch The Runner Again? The Oreos win on efficiency alone. 00:33:01 — Michael Paré + Gal Gadot A hypothetical acting combination severe enough to threaten the human spirit. 00:38:28 — Usual Suspects Spoiler Warning If someone spoils The Usual Suspects for you, apparently physical retaliation is now authorized. 00:44:17 — Se7en vs. L.A. Confidential A legitimate argument breaks out over which one belongs higher. 01:03:42 — Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man A terrible title. A dumb concept. Somehow still a good movie. 01:04:00 — “Nowhere. Want to come?” Mickey Rourke apparently had enough charisma to make that line work on anybody. 01:31:44 — The Pledge Did Something to My Soul Thriller Month becomes existential dread month. 01:35:38 — Gal Gadot or Tommy Wiseau? The episode finds its new game show. 01:39:55 — How to Fix The Runner Replace the movie, the cast and most of the footage. Problem solved. About
