Masked Actors: BelArabi_بالعربي is an original Arabic-language production, built for Arabic-speaking audiences across the Middle East and Africa. It turns complex threat intelligence into accessible conversations about who is behind cyberattacks and why — because understanding an adversary's motivations helps organizations spot emerging threats earlier. Across the season we examine the forces shaping cybercrime in the region: state-linked activity, the cybercriminal economy, and ideologically motivated hacktivism, and how the lines between them are blurring.

Episode 1 : Motive Over Method: What Really Drives a Cyberattack?

In the first episode of Masked Actors: BelArabi_بالعربي , Mohammad Gamal and Mansour Alhmoud explore the motivations behind today’s cyber threats before taking a closer look at MuddyWater, a state-linked threat actor Group-IB has tracked since 2017. The conversation explores MuddyWater’s recent activity across the Middle East, Türkiye, and Africa, including a campaign targeting more than 100 organizations, before diving into Operation Olalampo — where Group-IB researchers uncovered four new malware families, signs of AI-assisted development, and new activity as the operation unfolded. Who is behind these attacks, what are they trying to achieve, and what can their behavior tell us about what may come next? Send us Fan Mail
