CIRCUIT is systems literacy without the keynote. Each episode follows a familiar gesture — a tap, a stream, a default — into the stack that answers: speed, cost, failure modes, and who absorbs them. Calm, slightly dry engineer energy. No hype. Just the negotiation under the glass. Part of CONSTELLATION — Seven frequencies. One sky. Episodes are produced with an AI co-pilot and finished by a human editor for voice, taste, and truth.

Where Your Data Sleeps: How Storage Fails Quietly

Your files can be wrong long before anything looks broken. Circuit goes under the save button to where data actually sleeps: spinning disks and flash, the filesystem's index and journal, and the quiet failure engineers call bit rot. We explain checksums and scrubs, why replication and RAID keep you running but copy your mistakes faithfully, and why sync answers "where is my file" while only a backup answers "what did it used to be". A clearly labelled composite story shows a small studio with four copies of everything, all unreadable on the same Monday. Then the 3-2-1 habit, and the step almost everyone skips: a restore you have actually tested. The design question: when we make storage fast and cheap, who carries the risk? Takeaway: copies are not history. A backup is only real once it has come back. Narrated with an AI voice and edited by a human.

The Address Book That Forgets: How DNS Works, and Why It Fails

Before your browser fetches a single byte, it asks a question: where is this name? Circuit follows the step the pilot skipped, the Domain Name System. We walk the lookup (stub, recursive resolver, root, top-level domain, authoritative server) and the caching and TTL clocks that make it fast and fragile. A clearly labelled composite field story shows a routine Friday change splitting one name into two truths. Then the public record: Facebook's own account of its October 2021 outage, when its DNS servers became unreachable while still running. The design question: when we make names fast and cheap, who sees the stale answer longest? Takeaway: before blaming the Wi-Fi, ask whether it is the name or the place. Narrated with an AI voice and edited by a human.

The Invisible Stack: What Actually Runs When You Tap “Play”

You think you pressed Play. You woke a chain of machines, contracts, and quiet trade-offs. This Circuit pilot maps the invisible stack — client, edge, app, rights, media — and asks who gets left behind when we optimize for speed and cost. Part of CONSTELLATION.
