#1 - Roan Shafo, Corporate Job to Dirt Goblin: Building An Earth-Bag House & Off-Grid Living

In the first episode of True Spirits Podcast, Hannah Lyles sits down with Roan Shafo—an off-grid builder, potter, and self-described dirt goblin living near Belen, New Mexico. Roan shares his journey from a corporate animation job in Denver to building earthen homes, teaching free natural-building workshops, and creating Camp Darkmoon: a place for community, creativity, and getting your hands in the dirt. Together, they talk about earth-bag construction, adobe, off-grid living, pottery, housing affordability, and why making things with your hands can be profoundly healing. This is a thoughtful, funny, and deeply grounded conversation about choosing a different kind of life—and reconnecting with the earth, each other, and ourselves.
