A podcast where a brother (Rom) and sister (Nomes) read a book, watch a movie that's based on said book, and then discuss them both together! "Based on the Novel" is much less focused on the eternal question of "which was better" (though Nomes does have her "The Book was Better" mug ready and waiting in the sidelines) and is more curious about what happens in the process of adaptation. What's stayed the same and what's different? What do those changes do to the story that's being told? And what absolutely blew our minds to be in one and not the other? Buddy, you better get listening to find out!! Release schedule to be the first Monday of the month.

    Episode 2: Starship Troopers

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! Class is now in session as we ready ourselves to wade through the horrors of endless lectures about militarism and wonder where the high-flying military action that the back of the book promises is, before finding out a simple answer: it's in the movie instead! Robert A. Heinlein said "here's a book about how I think society should work" and Paul Verhoeven said "and here's a movie about how much that would suck." Golly! But honestly, more art needs to be fueled by spite like that. We ponder questions like, did Starship Troopers influence Scooby Doo? Was Casper Van Dien right about Halo ripping them off? And what the heck is "pineapple squash" on this month's episode! Content warnings: Violence, animal deaths, suggestions of animal cruelty, discussion of bugs, fascism The them song and break music are from "Forst Full of Magic" by Stevia Sphere and is used under a creative commons license. Episode 1: JAWS

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! We start our book and movie voyage off with a book that was a massive smash and STILL managed to get lost in the conversation about its much more well-known film adaptation: JAWS by Peter Benchley, and of course the film directed by Stephen Spielberg. We'll get in there and talk about the mafia and affair parts you may not be familiar with, cut through how unlikeable the book characters are in comparison to the film, and ponder an important question: what is up with the food on Amity? And how long until I suggest a "Food Corner" with its own theme song? (P.S. for those keeping track at home, the bread soup I was trying to remember is: salmorejo) Content warnings: Discussions of rape, violence, death (including a child and dog), cruelty to animals, infidelity Questions/comments/feedback are welcome at our email address basedonthenovelpodcast@gmail.com This theme song is "Forest Full of Magic" by Stevia Sphere and is used under a creative commons license. Intro Episode

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! Two people with very minimal podcasting experience between them set out on a journey.... a journey that begins, right, here. We talk through slight introductions, a discussion on what the podcast will be, and then put this up ASAP so that we can reserve the podcast title and concept for ourselves while we edit our first real episode! Ah, nothing like editing a podcast to give you a crash course in your weird vocal ticks that you do right into the microphone, amirite? Episodes to go out on the first Monday of the month, If you are listening in REAL TIME this one went up off that cycle, again, just to get the title and all that saved. We'll see you.... at the movies. Library. Movie library. Movie section, at the library.
