On Moral Leadership in the Classroom & Beyond | Dr. Robert Franklin, Dr. Terrance Mitchell, Dr. Donnell Williamson & Jackson Bucker - 2026 C.A.N.D.L.E

This year's 2026 C.A.N.D.L.E. series is an intergenerational conversation with Morehouse Men on ethical leadership in the classroom and beyond. We are excited to convene with Dr. Robert Franklin '75, former and 10th President of Morehouse College, Dr. Terrance Mitchell '07, Dr. Donnell Williamson '15 & Jackson Bucker '26. The episode asks a foundational question for educators: What does it mean to teach as a moral practice? Across generations, the speakers answer that teaching is the work of helping students know who they are, interpret the forces shaping their lives, imagine a more humane world, and act in relationship with others to build it. 0:00 Introduction and context 1:40 Legacy and calling 4:42 The HBCU experience 7:31 Defining the Morehouse spirit 12:13 Inspiration from ancestors 17:53 Formative moral foundations 22:30 Classroom as moral space 25:36 Mentorship and future paths 29:11 Ambassadorship and identity 32:41 Justice and moving forward 39:54 Conclusion
