You're Living Your Life For People Who Barely Think About You

Have you ever left a conversation wondering whether you said something strange, talked too much, or made a bad impression? Why do we care so deeply about what other people think of us, even when their opinions shouldn't matter? In this episode of Human, Mostly, I explore the psychology of social evaluation, the spotlight effect, rejection sensitivity, and the strange ways we can become trapped in other people's imagined judgments. And perhaps more importantly, what happens when trying to be liked begins to get in the way of actually being ourselves.

Sometimes the things we avoid most are the things we want most

Why do we sometimes avoid the things we care about most? We know what we want to do. We know why it matters. And yet we keep putting it off. In this episode of Human, Mostly, I explore the psychology of procrastination, why avoidance can feel so rewarding, how fear of failure keeps us from beginning, and why waiting to feel ready might be costing us more than we realize. Drawing on research into mood regulation, motivation, and procrastination, I try to understand why knowing what matters isn't always enough to make us act.

    PSYCH | Why Don’t I Do What I Know I Should?

Procrastination often persists because avoiding a task gives us something valuable immediately, usually relief from an unpleasant feeling, while pushing the cost onto a future version of ourselves.
