    What Even Is Discipleship??

You know you’re His daughter. But has anyone ever taught you how to live like one? Welcome to Just Daughters. In this first episode, we’re starting with a question that sounds simple—but might change the way we understand our faith: What even is discipleship? Because somewhere along the way, a lot of us learned how to believe in Jesus without ever really learning how to follow Him. We have a Bible on our nightstand. We know the stories. We know the verses. We know what we're “supposed” to believe. But what do we actually do with the Word of God when real life happens? The Bible isn't just a book of information. It is a tool God has given us to know Him, recognize what is happening inside of us, and learn how to live differently. And of course the enemy would love for us to never open it. Proverbs is pretty blunt about what happens when we refuse wisdom. We aren't just uninformed—we can actually become foolish. But discipleship is more than reading your Bible. It's learning how to apply what you're reading. It's learning to pause. To examine what's happening. To notice what you're feeling, what you're believing, and what you're producing. To ask: What fruit am I seeing here?Where am I weak? What does the Word actually say about this? What would it look like to respond differently? Because sometimes we're asking Jesus for a bandaid while simultaneously cussing Him out because we're hurting. And we're missing the fact that He knows what it feels like. He isn't standing outside of our pain giving us instructions. He entered into humanity. He understands suffering. And He isn't trying to shame us into becoming better people. He's forming us. And that's where maturity comes in. Not everyone is going to be at the same place in their faith. There are different levels of maturity, different experiences, different wounds, different understandings. But wherever we are, Jesus is inviting us to keep growing. So what does that actually look like? It looks like taking the Word of God and bringing it into the ordinary stuff: A hard conversation. A conflict. An insecurity. A temptation. A relationship. A moment when you're angry. A moment when you're afraid. Instead of simply asking, “What does the Bible say?” We begin asking: “How do I live this?” What does patience look like here? What does self-control look like here? What does gentleness look like here?Where am I seeing the fruit of the Spirit—and where am I seeing the opposite? This is what discipleship is. Not becoming someone who knows more Bible verses. Becoming someone who is actually being changed by Jesus. And that requires bravery. Because sometimes the Word of God is going to show us something about ourselves that we don't want to see. But we don't have to run from it. We can pause. We can notice. We can name it. And then we can let Jesus teach us a different way. That's what Just Daughters is about. Learning how to take what we believe and actually live it. Not perfectly or performatively. But as daughters who are learning to follow Jesus for real. What discipleship actually isWhy knowing Scripture isn't the same as living ScriptureThe Bible as a practical tool for everyday lifeWhy the enemy doesn't want us grounded in God's WordThe difference between spiritual information and spiritual maturityWhat it looks like to pause and examine what's happening inside of usUsing the fruit of the Spirit as a practical way to examine our livesIdentifying our areas of weakness without living in shameWhat it means to let Jesus actually change usWhy discipleship requires courage and bravery You know you're His daughter. Now let's learn how to live like one.__________________________________ Did you love this episode? Leave us a 5 star review!
