71-year-old patient. Is TAVI the right choice?

As #TAVI moves into younger and lower-risk populations, one question is becoming increasingly common in Heart Team discussions: what should we do with a 71-year-old patient with severe aortic stenosis? In this PCR podcast, Tobias Rheude and Dejan Milasinovic explore how the latest evidence and guidelines are reshaping decision-making for younger patients. The message is clear: for many patients over 70, transfemoral TAVI has become a standard option, supported by robust data from landmark low-risk trials. But the conversation quickly reveals that age is only part of the story. This podcast also reviews long-term outcomes from contemporary TAVI trials, the growing importance of valve selection, and the emerging role of AI-assisted procedural planning. Along the way, you will find practical insights on challenging scenarios such as bicuspid anatomy and the increasingly debated question of whether PCI should come before or after TAVI. Whether you're firmly in the “TAVI-first” camp or still weighing the pros and cons for younger patients, this discussion offers a thoughtful, evidence-based perspective with plenty of real-world experience. And if you thought choosing a valve was complicated, wait until you hear why you're now expected to plan the second valve before implanting the first one... Hosted on Acast.
