The Nick DiMarco Podcast

Nick DiMarco

I'm Nick DiMarco. I'm an endurance coach, strength and conditioning coach, ultrarunner, military veteran, husband, and dad of two. I've spent most of my life around sports, coaching, and trying to understand human performance. This podcast is a place to share what I've learned, explore what I'm curious about, and talk with interesting people. We'll get into training, nutrition, science, family, and life in general. Some conversations will be educational, others completely off topic. The goal is simple. Have good conversations, challenge ideas, learn something, and have fun along the way.

Episode 2 Injury, Disappointment, and Rim to River 100 Reflections

Two weeks before the Rim to River 100, a hard fall during my final big training weekend changed everything. After months of preparation, I had to make the difficult decision not to start. In this solo episode, I talk about what happened, why Rim to River means so much to me, and how I'm dealing with the disappointment. I also share my perspective as both an athlete and a coach on recognizing injuries, knowing when to stop, and making decisions that prioritize long-term health over short-term goals. We get into how injuries affect family and friends, teaching our children to handle adversity, finding opportunities when things don't go according to plan, and approaching rehabilitation and returning to running. I also break down my planned Rim to River race setup, including footwear, clothing, lighting, my homemade carbohydrate drink mix, hydration strategy, and fueling targets. Finally, I discuss what's next with the 2027 Rim to River Trifecta, my coaching plans, and an upcoming off-season strength training program.
