99 Episodes Later: The Work, the Doubts & Why We Kept Going

We almost stopped the podcast. Instead, we committed to 50 more episodes and a live show. In episode 99, Norman Burgos, Stacey, and Aaron raise a glass to the journey so far and get honest about what it took to keep Get Alpha going. With Aaron’s homemade espresso martinis in hand, the crew looks back on the conversations, friendships, risks, and behind-the-scenes work that brought them to the edge of a major milestone. From the early setup with a tablecloth that looked like a garbage bag to building a dedicated podcast space, a lot has changed. But the moments that matter most are the people who opened up, the relationships that continued after the cameras stopped, and the listeners who made the work worthwhile. The crew also talks about showing up while life gets complicated, learning to accept appreciation, stepping outside their comfort zones, and the nerves that come with booking a venue for the 100th episode. In this episode:• Why the podcast almost stopped—and what changed their minds• The preparation, filming, editing, and organizing behind each episode• The guest stories that stayed with the team• The funniest moments and early recording mishaps• How Retro and In Between Rounds brought new conversations to the show• Why their experiment with virtual interviews didn’t feel right• Acting before overthinking talks you out of an opportunity• Building friendships and a community through the podcast• Live show nerves, ticket sales, and taking a bigger chance• Plans for a break after episode 100 and an honest conversation about what comes next To everyone who has watched, listened, shared an episode, or sat down with us: thank you. Is Reality TV Rewarding the Worst in People?

Why does reality TV reward lying and manipulation—and when did finding love turn into finding followers? In this GAMP Retro episode, Norman Burgos, Stacy, and Aaron catch up on what they’ve been watching, debate what makes a satisfying ending, and question whether reality TV has lost its original appeal. Norman has finally caught up on The Bear, and the crew has plenty to say. From their reactions to The Bear and The Boys to the frustration of waiting years between short seasons, this conversation is full of TV hot takes, disagreements, and laughs. Then it’s a trip back to the games we grew up with: Uno house rules, Monopoly marathons, Taboo, Guess Who?, and competitive rounds of dodgeball. The crew also revisits their conversation with barber Zach, reflecting on customer service, the relationships built in a barber’s chair, and making time for yourself. 🎉 GET ALPHA’S 100TH EPISODE — LIVE! The Best Way to Beat an Enemy? Make Them an Ally

Do you need enemies to push you forward—or are you giving them too much space in your head? In this episode of Between Rounds, Norman Burgos and Aaron unpack the ideas in Patrick Bet-David’s Choose Your Enemies Wisely and debate whether opposition creates drive or becomes a distraction. Then they explore another approach: turning an enemy into an ally. From hiring the biggest party animals as security to recognizing when control becomes micromanagement, this conversation explores how we lead, work with others, and get out of our own way. In Season 5, Episode 96, we get into: • Using your enemies as motivation—and questioning whether you need to. • Showing up and doing the work without waiting for inspiration. • Breaking through overthinking by simplifying your choices. • Earning respect and giving your team room to find solutions. • Turning conflict into cooperation. • Controlling what you can while learning when to let go. • Listening to understand instead of waiting for your turn to speak. Norman also shares what he’s sitting with and what he’s gotten wrong: the urge to control everything and the ongoing work of becoming a better listener. What drives you more: proving someone wrong or building something you believe in? Your Business Will Never Be Finished. Here’s Why.

When does “good enough” become an excuse to stop growing and when is it exactly what you need to move forward? In Episode 95 of the Get Alpha Podcast, Norman Burgos sits down with Aaron for another edition of In Between the Rounds. Starting with Jim Collins’ Good to Great, they explore the balance between setting high standards, building momentum, and actually getting your ideas out into the world. The conversation moves from business and leadership to appreciating small moments, rebuilding routines after setbacks, and learning when walking away is the right decision. In this episode: • Why “good is the enemy of great” deserves a closer look • How perfectionism can keep you from finishing your first version • Why launching a business, product, or website is only the beginning • Finding satisfaction in everyday moments instead of chasing the next achievement • Developing your team’s strengths instead of trying to clone yourself • Getting back into training after the disruption of a flood • Learning to walk away from conversations and opportunities that aren’t right for you What do you need most right now: higher standards, the momentum to start, or the clarity to walk away? Let us know in the comments. The Heaviest Thing You Carry Is an Unmade Decision

What are you carrying around simply because you refuse to make a decision? In this episode of In Between Rounds, Norman breaks down another collection of ideas, quotes and lessons he is currently working through in his own life. The conversation starts with Robert Greene’s Mastery and the idea that becoming exceptional at something has far less to do with natural talent than most people think. Mastery comes from repetition, deep focus, patience and the willingness to continue doing the work long after the excitement disappears. But there is another question underneath it all: Do you actually want to master something, or do you simply like the idea of being the person who has mastered it? From there, Norman dives into an Alex Hormozi quote that hits hard: “The heaviest thing in the world to carry around isn’t iron or gold. It’s an unmade decision.” Whether it is losing weight, learning another language, changing careers or pursuing a goal you have been talking about for years, eventually you have to stop talking about what you want and decide whether you are actually willing to do what it takes. Support helps. Encouragement helps. But nobody can make that decision for you. The conversation also explores gratitude, perspective and why appreciating what you already have can completely change how you experience difficult seasons of life. Norman then gets into something much more personal: Am I doing enough for my family? There is a difficult balance between working hard enough to provide for the people you love and sacrificing so much time working that you are no longer present with them. How much work is enough? How much time are you willing to lose? And can you be fully present with your family even when the problems at work are still waiting for you? Finally, Norman talks about a lesson he admits he has learned the hard way: When people show you who they are, believe them. Giving people another chance can be admirable, but repeatedly ignoring patterns can eventually come at the expense of your own happiness. Sometimes growth means believing in people. Sometimes it means trusting your gut and knowing when it is time to move forward. In this episode: • Robert Greene’s Mastery • Why mastery is built through repetition • Talent versus consistency • The difference between grind and grit • Why motivation eventually disappears • The weight of an unmade decision • Taking responsibility for what you say you want • Learning another language and following through • Gratitude and perspective • Appreciating what you already have • Balancing work and family • Providing for your family without disappearing from it • Being present as a husband and father • Trusting your instincts about people • Recognizing patterns in friendships and relationships • Why time becomes more valuable after having children • Choosing relationships that add something meaningful to your life The Get Alpha Podcast 100th Episode Live Show is coming October 16. Men Want Respect. Women Want to Be Seen. Is It Really That Simple?

What do men and women actually need from each other? In Episode 92 of the Get Alpha Podcast, Norman and Aaron sit down for another In Between Rounds conversation about relationships, self-respect, personal standards, fatherhood, discipline and the things we sometimes get wrong along the way. The conversation starts with Jordan Peterson’s 12 Rules for Life and the idea that we should treat ourselves like someone we are responsible for helping. We are often willing to take care of everyone around us while ignoring the standards, discipline and difficult conversations we need to have with ourselves. From there, Norman and Aaron unpack a thought-provoking idea: Men want to feel appreciated, respected and validated. Women want to feel seen, heard and protected. Are those really different needs, or are men and women describing many of the same things in different ways? They also discuss how resentment can build when someone feels unappreciated, why being seen and heard matters in relationships, and how communication can break down even when two people are trying to say the same thing. The conversation then turns to parenting and a powerful realization: when you are raising a child, you are not only raising your son or daughter. You may be raising someone’s future husband, wife, father, mother, friend, coworker or business partner. How you treat your spouse, how you handle responsibility and how you live your own life becomes part of what your children learn about relationships. Norman also talks about refusing to use external things to solve internal problems, creating higher personal standards, staying disciplined with food and training during stressful periods, and something he admits he has struggled with for years: setting boundaries. In this episode: • Treating yourself like someone you are responsible for helping• Jordan Peterson and 12 Rules for Life• What men and women want from relationships• Appreciation, respect and validation• Feeling seen, heard and protected• Communication and different ways of expressing needs• What children learn by watching their parents• Raising someone’s future husband, wife, father or mother• Why external things cannot fix internal problems• Creating higher personal standards• Discipline when life becomes stressful• Staying on track with nutrition and training• Learning how to set healthy boundaries• Having uncomfortable conversations with yourself The Get Alpha Podcast 100th Episode Live Show is coming October 16. Why Are Kids’ Birthday Parties So Expensive?

The parents who told you “eat what’s on your plate” are now hand-feeding your kids and buying whatever they want. What happened? 😂 In GAMP Season 5, Episode 92, Norman Burgos and the crew talk about strict parents becoming soft grandparents, the pressure to throw expensive kids’ birthday parties, and whether children really need more gifts—or more time with the people who love them. It’s a casual conversation about parenting, childhood memories, family traditions, and the funny double standards you notice when your parents become grandparents. In this episode: • Grandparents spoiling the kids—and getting away with everything • Big first birthday parties: who are they really for? • Gift-giving expectations, swimming lessons, and experiences over more toys • Teaching manners and keeping learning going beyond the classroom • Talkative kids, listening, and finding a way to ask for quiet • Childhood birthdays, family sauce-making, and homemade barbecue • Tequila, espresso martinis, Marvel, and what we’re watching Plus, we talk about the stress of the gym flood and introduce an upcoming segment, In Between Rounds. 👇 What’s something your parents let your kids do that you NEVER would have gotten away with?
