Constructive Irreverence Podcast
A single episode, and a companion to the Three Shifts guidebook (https://constructiveirreverence.substack.com/p/three-shifts). Read that first, then give this a listen. Or don't. Kamini Singha and Adam Pidlisecky talk through the three shifts that help a scientist hit the ground running in industry, fill in the gaps the guidebook leaves, and disagree about some of it. You've ticked the boxes. Coursework, candidacy, the committee, the papers, the defence. You did what academia asked of you, and you did it well. Now you want to go to industry. Here's the part nobody mentions: they're asking for different things. Not better things, and not harder things. Different. They want to know how you managed risk, not what you discovered. What decision your work lets someone make. What you still don't know and what it would take to find out. The good news is that you already have everything you need. The tools you built getting through the last six years are the right tools. You just have to learn to wield them differently, and to describe them in a way that lands with someone who doesn't work in your field. constructiveirreverence.substack.com
