    2. The Best Savings Accounts for Kids: Comparing 529’s, UTMA’s, Trump Accounts, and More.

Every parent wants to provide meaningful opportunities for their children. But with so many different savings and investment accounts available, how do you know which ones make the most sense for your family? Should you prioritize a 529 college savings plan? Open a custodial UTMA brokerage account? Take advantage of the new Trump Accounts? Or simply keep the money invested in your own name? In this episode of the True Riches Podcast, Zack Gutches, CFP® and CPA, breaks down seven different accounts parents can save and invest for their children’s futures, exploring the tax advantages, limitations, financial aid implications, and practical considerations of each. Topics covered include: * The seven primary account types available for saving for children * How gift taxes work and the $19,000 annual gift tax exclusion * The advantages of 529 plans, including tax-free growth, qualified education expenses, and Roth IRA rollovers * Colorado’s 529 tax deduction and First Step matching program * How grandparents’ 529 accounts can affect college financial aid eligibility * UTMA accounts, the kiddie tax, and the trade-offs of irrevocable gifting * How the new Trump Accounts work, including their tax treatment and potential Roth conversion strategies * Why keeping investments in your own brokerage account may be an underrated option * The importance of balancing tax efficiency, financial flexibility, and responsible stewardship The takeaway: There isn’t one perfect account for every family. The right approach depends on your financial resources, goals for your children, and how much flexibility you want to preserve. At True Riches Financial Planning, we help families navigate decisions like these by blending modern financial strategies with timeless biblical principles. 1. Setting “Financial Finish Lines"— A Practical, Biblical Framework to Unlock Radical Generosity and Live with Greater Faithfulness, Impact, and Joy

How much is enough? Without a thoughtful and intentional answer to that question, it’s easy to keep moving the goalposts as life evolves—earning more, saving more, and accumulating more without ever defining what we actually need. In this first episode of the True Riches Podcast, I introduce the concept of a financial finish line and a practical framework for setting both: * an annual spending finish line * a personal wealth finish line We’ll look at how these two numbers coincide to help Christians confidently balance spending, saving, taxes, family responsibilities, and generosity. I also walk through two hypothetical case studies—one for a mid 30’s family still accumulating wealth and another for a recently retired 60 year old couple—to show how setting a finish line can create the freedom and confidence to give more generously NOW rather than “someday”. Finally, I share a few practical best practices for setting, revisiting, and creating accountability around your own finish lines. In this episode: * Why “just a little bit more” can become a dangerous default * Spending vs. wealth finish lines * Planning for “the big 5” ticket items beyond the spending finish line: home improvements, cars, healthcare, college, and legacy * Two practical case studies * How finish lines can unlock radical generosity * Why accountability deeply matters The goal isn’t legalism or deprivation. It’s thoughtfully answering “how much do I truly need to keep?” so you can freely give away the rest more confidently and live with greater joy along the way.
