The Lume Smiles Podcast

Lume Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics

Straight answers for families, from first tooth to last retainer check. Lume Smiles is the podcast from Lume Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics. Each episode takes one question parents actually ask about pediatric dentistry and orthodontics, like when a child should first see an orthodontist, how to make a first dental visit easy, or whether baby teeth really matter, and answers it in plain language. Most episodes are hosted by orthodontist Dr. Sam Burrow, joined by Lume's pediatric dentists, orthodontists and team, and by guests from the community, from pediatricians and family dentists to local families and business owners, who help parents get the full picture. You get the answer in the first minute, the conversation behind it, and one thing to do this week. New episodes every other Tuesday. Send us your question at LumeSmilesPodcast.com. For education only. Talk with your own dentist or orthodontist about your child's care.

Why Kids Fear the Dentist And How Parents Can Help

Is your child scared of the dentist? Dr. Christina Williams, DDS, joins host Dr. Sam Burrow to share what actually helps, from a child's first visit to the teen years. Dr. Williams studied psychology before dentistry, and she uses it every day with nervous kids. She explains how "tell, show, do" takes the mystery out of a visit, how a parent's own dental worries can rub off on a child and what to say instead, when it can help for a parent to step out, whether prizes and popsicles really work, and what gets a teenager to cooperate. Her advice for the ride over: keep it positive. "Let's have a good appointment today."
