Learn how warm and cool colors affect mood and depth, why complementary colors create contrast, and how to avoid muddy mixes. Diane also shares her approach to working with values, saving pure white highlights for the end, using toned canvases to improve color perception, and simplifying the painting process with a limited palette. Brushline 0102: Memories as Creative Anchors

Where do you find your next idea when you’re ready to draw or paint? For me, the answer often begins with a memory—a moment that carries a particular light, color, atmosphere, or feeling that has stayed with me. That memory can become the emotional anchor for a painting and a starting point for something deeply personal. In this episode of Brushline, we’ll explore how memories can help you discover meaningful subjects when you’re searching for inspiration. I’ll share some simple ways to identify the moments that hold significance for you and ideas for capturing those memories so they can become creative starting points. You don’t need to wait for inspiration to strike. Sometimes, the best subject is already waiting in your memory. Welcome to Brushline, where we explore the ideas, experiences, and creative impulses that bring art to life.
