Jon Ossoff wins reelection to Georgia Senate, defeating Mike Collins

Jon Ossoff has secured another term in the U.S. Senate from Georgia, defeating Republican opponent Mike Collins. Ossoff made the race a referendum on the Trump administration, criticizing what he described as self-serving stock trades and business deals involving the president and people in his orbit. He also highlighted the effects of the war in Iran and Trump’s trade policies on Georgia voters’ pocketbooks. Despite delivering viral speeches criticizing Donald Trump, Ossoff has repeatedly said he has “zero interest” in running for president. He raised at least $115.9 million during the election cycle, many times more than Collins. Ossoff never fell behind Collins in the polls, and his re-election was expected. At a Democratic election-night event in Georgia, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said his party cared about whether people could afford groceries and fuel, adding, “That’s not left or right. That’s life.” Collins campaigned on immigration enforcement and anti-transgender policies. His campaign was marred by reported ties between staff and white nationalists, neo-Nazis and far-right extremists. CNN reported that Collins’ son-in-law, David Alan Scheer II, advocated white supremacist and Nazi views online. Collins’ former chief of staff, Kip Talley, and other aides had met with white nationalists Nick Fuentes and Richard Spencer, who had sought Collins’ office’s help on behalf of Holocaust denier and right-wing activist Charles C. Johnson, who was incarcerated on contempt-of-court charges. Ossoff repeatedly criticized these connections in debates and campaign ads. https://onlinemalumat.com/en/jon-ossoff-wins-georgia-senate-race-over-republican-mike-collins-31637

UK PM considers slavery apology calls; historian says government should apologize

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has indicated he is willing to consider calls for an apology regarding the nation’s involvement in the transatlantic slave trade, though he has ruled out financial reparations. He backs talks about restructuring debt, a matter raised by the Caribbean Community and the African Union. King Charles is expected to address Britain’s part in the slave trade during a Commonwealth gathering in Antigua and Barbuda. The opposition, under Kemi Badenoch, says apologies are a distraction. Historian Olivette Otele argues that it is the British government, not individual citizens, that should apologise, as public funds were used to compensate enslavers following the Abolition Act of 1833. She notes that the debt wasn’t completely repaid until 2015. Otele contends that reparative justice should tackle the ongoing consequences of slavery and systemic racism, going beyond monetary compensation. She highlights the return of cultural heritage, education, climate justice and health inequality as areas for action. She says Parliament could discuss the British Museum Act 1963 and the National Heritage Act 1983, which prevent certain museums from permanently returning some objects in their collections. Burnham has pledged £40 million to Caribbean projects, which Otele describes as a step toward mending relations and furthering dialogue on climate justice. She cites consultant Tracie Jolliff’s view that racism continues to disadvantage Black Britons in housing, health, education and the criminal justice system. Former Bristol mayor Marvin Rees says individuals are not responsible for their ancestors’ actions, but institutions passed on advantages. Otele calls for the government to work with families and institutions linked to compensation paid to enslavers. https://onlinemalumat.com/en/british-people-dont-need-to-apologise-for-slavery-but-the-government-does-olivette-otele-31580

Binance says hackers used fake hiring scheme and AI tool in $6.34 billion theft

Binance has reported that cybercriminals stole $6.34 billion in digital assets by exploiting a false hiring scheme and an internal AI system to breach its wallet infrastructure. In an incident report released Tuesday, the exchange said the attackers used malware and stolen credentials to access systems responsible for authorizing transactions. Binance said the FBI had linked the breach to North Korea, while its own investigation found that the hackers used social engineering and compromised internal tools. The attackers first targeted an engineer in June, then used a fraudulent recruitment process in September to compromise another employee’s device. On October 29, they used stolen credentials to deploy a container and launch the wallet attack. Binance said it has frozen or intercepted about $2.85 billion in assets and replenished 98% of the impacted assets. The firm said it closed the access points used in the attack, rebuilt or replaced affected systems, strengthened device controls, and is commissioning an independent cybersecurity review. Binance also said its security team detected and prevented 57 suspected North Korea-linked cyberattacks throughout 2026. Kim Jong-un’s sister called FBI claims linking North Korea to the hack a “grave political provocation.” Separately, Binance began reopening withdrawals in phases for dozens of assets across several networks at 4 a.m. UTC on November 3. The exchange later reported that hourly deposits exceeded withdrawals. https://onlinemalumat.com/en/binance-says-hackers-used-fake-job-interview-internal-ai-tool-in-63-billion-breach-31504

Blumenthal argues Trump’s midterm rhetoric reflects his political approach

In a *Guardian* column, Sidney Blumenthal argues that Donald Trump’s language during his midterm campaign reflects his political approach, citing vulgar attacks on Democrats and the press, as well as derogatory remarks about women and political opponents. Blumenthal also notes Trump’s description of Norway as a “shithouse country” after it did not award him the Nobel Peace Prize. The article says Trump promised $5,000 to everyone “if the Republicans win,” and quotes him telling supporters they would be his guests at Mar-a-Lago. At an October rally in Texas, Trump joked that $5,000 might buy only a hamburger and a small dessert. Blumenthal writes that the crowd cheered and laughed. The column also describes Trump’s defense of a campaign ad by Ohio Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy that accused Amy Acton, a physician and former state health director, of lying about being repeatedly raped by her stepfather when she was 12. Blumenthal says records show Acton was a victim. Trump called the ad “hitting pay dirt,” while JD Vance criticized Republicans who objected to it as “whining.” Blumenthal also cites Trump’s attacks on Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, including calling him a “jihadist lunatic”; El-Sayed was born in Michigan. The piece ends with an account of a Halloween party at Mar-a-Lago, where Trump arrived in a blue suit and red tie, said he had come as himself, and danced to “YMCA.” https://onlinemalumat.com/en/trumps-midterm-campaign-has-distilled-his-vile-message-sidney-blumenthal-31197

Bernie Taupin releases first solo album with music and lyrics of his own

Bernie Taupin says he appreciates the ability to move through life without being recognized, even though he's known as the lyricist behind many of Elton John’s most iconic tracks. Now 76, he has put out *The Sea Has No Mercy*, a solo album where he composed the words and melodies himself for the first time in his career. Recorded in Nashville, the project blends folk, country, and ambient elements. Taupin refers to it as a statement from this stage of his life, featuring songs that include what he describes as a critique of modern living. He explains that after completing his 2023 memoir, *Scattershot*, he wanted to create something purely for his own satisfaction. Taupin’s time in the United States has involved collaborating with John, a period in the 1970s as part of the Hollywood Vampires drinking group, and participating in rodeo events professionally. He states he has fully integrated into American life and resides near Santa Barbara, where locals regard him as a friend. His daughter competes in rodeos in Texas and is soon to join Professional Bull Riders. Taupin has committed to one appearance for the album at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry, performing alongside his daughter Georgey. A documentary covering his entire career is also set for release by year’s end. Taupin notes that he doesn’t anticipate his solo projects will impact his low profile. https://onlinemalumat.com/en/at-my-age-i-can-rant-bernie-taupin-on-elton-john-hellraising-vampires-and-competing-in-full-blown-rodeos-31043
