HCM Pills Episode 7 Professor Juan Pablo Kaski

HCM Pills is a series of webcasts organized by the HCM Patient Foundation. The purpose of the webcast is to ask the most burning questions of patients to world-renowned HCM experts who reply to them in a clear and understandable way. Our seventh guest, Juan Pablo Kaski, is Professor of Paediatric Inherited Cardiovascular Medicine at the UCL Institute of Cardiovascular Science, where he leads the UCL Centre for Paediatric Inherited and Rare Cardiovascular Diseases, and Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), London, UK. His clinical and research interests are focused on the clinical and genetic characterisation of inherited cardiovascular disease and sudden cardiac death in childhood. He has established an internationally-recognised research programme in the field of paediatric cardiomyopathy, having established a unique clinical cohort and the only UK bioresource for paediatric inherited cardiovascular disease, with the aim of stratifying disease phenotypes and identifying novel therapeutic targets. He is immediate past-Chair of the Association for European Paediatric Cardiology (AEPC) Working Group on Genetics, Basic Science and Myocardial Disease and sits on the Executive Board of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Cardiomyopathy and Myocarditis Registry Programme and the ESC Council on Cardiovascular Genomics, as Liaison Officer. He leads an international paediatric HCM consortium of over 45 centres, which was responsible for the development of the first sudden death risk prediction model for childhood HCM. He chaired the Task Force for the 2023 European Society of Cardiology Guidelines for the Management of Cardiomyopathies. The anchor of HCM Pills is Dr. Niccolo' Maurizi, Chief Resident in Cardiology at CHUV | Lausanne university. Prior to that, he worked as a Researcher at Università degli Studi di Firenze. He co-founded D-Heart, a startup for innovative cardiologic wearable concepts in 2015. He has authored and co-authored almost 100 scientific articles with concentration on HCM-related issues (sudden cardiac arrest management, pregnancy in HCM, smart devices in clinical practice, etc.). Niccolo' will be asking all questions of HCM patients to our patients.

HCM Pills Episode 5 Professor Connie Bezzina

HCM Pills is a series of webcasts organized by the HCM Patient Foundation. The purpose of the webcast is to ask the most burning questions of patients to world-renowned HCM experts who reply to them in a clear and understandable way. Our fifth guest, Prof. Connie Bezzina, is a Full Professor of Heart Failure and Arrhythmias at Amsterdam University Medical Centre. She conducts research on genetic factors underlying inherited cardiac disorders, focusing mainly on primary electrical disorders associated with sudden cardiac death in the young. Her work considers the broad spectrum of genetic complexities of these disorders, ranging from monogenic to polygenic, and has pioneered the concept of polygenic inheritance in the rare rhythm disorders such as Brugada syndrome. To enable such studies, she established international consortia of researchers from all over the world, bringing together hundreds of patients. In an integrative approach, her group also studies the identified genetic factors in induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes and gene-targeted mice in order to understand the causative mechanisms and identify preventive and therapeutic strategies. She has authored numerous important articles and is an editorial member of the European Heart Journal. The anchor of HCM Pills is Dr. Niccolo' Maurizi, Chief Resident in Cardiology at CHUV | Lausanne university. HCM Pills Episode 4 Professor Jolanda van der Velden

HCM Pills is a series of webcasts organized by the HCM Patient Foundation. The purpose of the webcast is to ask the most burning questions of patients to world-renowned HCM experts who reply to them in a clear and understandable way. Our fourth guest, Prof. Jolanda van der Velden, is the Chair of the Department of Physiology at the Amsterdam University Medical Center, and director of the Amsterdam Cardiovascular Sciences Institute. Her main research interest is the role of sarcomeric proteins in cardiac performance. As mutations in sarcomeric proteins are a frequent cause of heart disease, research on inherited cardiomyopathies is a central research line in Amsterdam UMC. Prof. van der Velden’s team at the Physiology department collaborates with clinical geneticists, cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and experts in in vivo cardiac imaging, enabling translational studies from bench to the patient. Their expertise includes functional studies at single cardiac muscle cell and multicellular level, and mitochondrial studies in patient samples obtained during cardiac surgery, and stem cell-derived heart models. HCM Pills Episode 3 Professor Perry Elliott "Sudden Death In HCM"

HCM Pills is a series of webcasts organized by the HCM Patient Foundation. The purpose of the webcast is to ask the most burning questions of patients to world-renowned HCM experts who reply to them in a clear and understandable way. Our third guest, Prof. Perry Elliott, is Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at University College London and a Senior Investigator of the UK National Institute for Health Research. He is director of the UCL Institute of Cardiovascular Science UCL and a consultant cardiologist at St. Bartholomew's Hospital London. He is Chairman of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Heart Academy and past chair of the ESC Council on Cardiovascular Genomics, the ESC Working Group on Myocardial and Pericardial Diseases and the Executive Committee for the European Outcomes Research Programme registry on cardiomyopathies. He is an executive Editor for the European Heart Journal.Perry Elliott is a recognized world authority in heart muscle disease. His most important research contributions include: gene identification; development and application of risk tools; biomarker discovery, and clinical trials in rare diseases. The direct benefits to patients include accurate risk prediction, effective family screening, and prevention of sudden cardiac death. His work is intrinsically collaborative and he has coordinated numerous global consortia that have informed disease classifications, US and European Practice guidelines, and genetic testing, including detailed rare cardiovascular disease data models for the 100K-genome project. The anchor of HCM Pills is Dr. Niccolo' Maurizi, Chief Resident in Cardiology at CHUV | Lausanne university.
