Flying With a Baby: The Biggest Decisions Before Your Flight

Before you get on an airplane with your baby, there are so many decisions you need to make. Buy them their own seat or take them on as a lap-infant? Try for the bassinet seat? Risk a tight connection or take an extended layover? What should you check and what should you carry on? And when should you board? In this episode, I'm taking you through six big decisions you need to make when travelling by plane with a baby that will have a huge impact on your trip. I'll talk through the pros and cons of each decision, plus what my family and I have done on past flights with our daughter. How We Spent 9 Months Travelling as a Family

We spent 9 months travelling with our baby through Canada, France, the UK and Spain in 2025/2026. Oh and we also brought our dog along for the ride! My husband, Colin, and I jumped off the deep end of family travel when we decided to spend our parental leave travelling internationally with our daughter. We left our home of Vancouver when she was five months old, ended our lease, donated or stored all of our stuff, and packed up our suitcases to set off on nine months of travel with a baby. In this episode, I'll take you through how we decided to go on this epic long term trip and what the trip planning process looked like. I'll share where we went, what everyday life looked like on the road with a baby (and dog!), the biggest pivots we had to make, and whether this has set us up for a lifetime of family travel or if we're staying home for good.
