Path to Hope Podcast

Saroni Kundu

The conversations most families avoid until it's too late. Path To Hope changes that, one honest episode at a time. Most people don’t miss the early signs of mental health struggle because they don’t care. They miss them because no one showed them what to look for, or gave them the words to start the conversation. Path To Hope brings together personal stories, clinical voices, community leaders, parents, and educators to do exactly that. It isn’t a clinical show, and it isn’t a crisis hotline. It’s a human show about awareness, connection, and the practical hope that begins in everyday conversations, in the space between the first signs and the first call for help. About the Host Saroni Kundu is an author, speaker, and mental health advocate. She wrote Hope Starts at Home: A True Story of Family, Mental Health, and the Courage to Keep Going and owns an outpatient mental health clinic. Saroni is not a licensed clinician. Her focus is the space before the clinic door. Between the moment the first signs of struggle show up and the moment someone reaches professional help, there is often a long, dark stretch. Families sense something is wrong but don’t know what they’re seeing, what to say, or where to turn. That is the space Saroni works to bring light to, through lived experience, more than 20 years of leadership, and the belief that awareness, not emergency, is where healing starts. Bring Saroni to your stage Saroni speaks to parent communities, schools, workplace leadership teams, and cultural organizations with one goal: to equip the room to have the conversations that change outcomes. HOW FAMILY MENTAL HEALTH STRUGGLES SHAPE OUR LIVES | LELA SHEPLEY-GAMBLE

How does growing up with a parent struggling with mental health affect the person you become? And can you break generational patterns of anxiety, emotional pain, and family trauma? Welcome to the Path to Hope Podcast with Saroni Kundu, where we have honest conversations about mental health, family relationships, healing, and finding hope through life's most difficult challenges. ➡️ EPISODE 1: BREAKING GENERATIONAL PATTERNS WITH LELA SHEPLEY-GAMBLE In this powerful first episode, host Saroni Kundu sits down with Lela Shepley-Gamble to explore how mental health struggles affect entire families, often across generations. Lela shares her extraordinary journey from a childhood marked by her mother's emotional struggles and alcoholism to becoming a successful Wall Street executive, leaving corporate life behind, and discovering a new sense of purpose through Buddhism, motherhood, and personal growth. Together, they discuss the lasting effects of childhood anxiety, the pressure to please others, recognizing mental health warning signs in children, and the challenges of supporting loved ones experiencing depression and suicidal thoughts. Through deeply personal stories about parenting, family relationships, and her mother's mental health journey, Lela reveals how understanding, self-reflection, and compassion transformed the way she connected with her family. In this episode, you'll discover: • How a parent's mental health struggles can shape a child's emotional development • Why anxiety, trauma, and unhealthy coping patterns can continue across generations • How to recognize signs of anxiety in children that parents often overlook • The emotional impact of loving someone struggling with addiction, depression, or suicidal thoughts • Why healing your relationship with yourself can change how you support your family This conversation reminds us that understanding mental health begins with awareness, and that even the most difficult family experiences can lead to greater compassion and connection. As Lela shares, "Hope is a decision that we make." This episode includes conversations about suicide and mental health struggles. Please listen with care.
