Lumens are lying to you — not because the number is fake, but because it's the wrong number for the question you're actually asking: what will you actually see, at the distance you actually need, for as long as you need it? This week the test runs through the real rotation. Pocket ladder, keys to premium: RovyVon Aurora A3 Gen 4 (650 lm, 110 m, steps down to ~80 lm after about a minute on High) — the light that's always there because it's on the keys; Streamlight Wedge (1,000 lm THRO burst for 35 seconds, sustained 300 lm / 69 m); Olight Baton 4 with its charging case (1,300 lm turbo, 170 m, steps down within minutes — the case recharges it up to 5 times and doubles as a phone power bank); ThruNite Saber, the daily work light (659 lm / 141 m on its rechargeable 14500, 235 lm / 90 m on a plain AA); and the Olight ArkPro Ultra, where the same body proves the point against itself — 1,700 lm flood throws ~111 m, 800 lm spot throws ~205 m. Weapon ladder — all Streamlight, four different jobs: TLR-6 on the S&W M&P Shield Plus (light only, NO laser — 100 lm, 89 m); TLR-7 sub, original CR123A version, on the Glock 48 (500 lm, 141 m); TLR-8 A on the Glock 45 (500 lm, 140 m — the twin of the TLR-7 sub; what it buys is the laser, not more light; its We The People holster is the one that fits it, not a first choice); TLR-1 HL on the Glock 19X in the Tier 1 Axis Elite (1,000 lm, 20,000 cd, 283 m — double the lumens, quadruple the candela, double the throw). The test, every time: beam for the job first, candela second, sustained output third. Lumens last, if at all. A weapon light does not replace training, knowing your state law, or secure storage. Train with the light on the gun, in the dark, in the clothes you actually wear. Send us your carry: a top-down flat lay, the exact models, one line on what you do all day, and FEATURE ME / ROAST ME / EITHER — nobody gets roasted without opting in. Website Submit Your Carry, edcpocketcheck@gmail.com, or tag @edcpocketcheck with #PocketCheck. Carry triangles (gun, holster, belt) still welcome too. Next week: the bag. Does your carry earn its pocket?
