Limina Oblita

Lovecraft's lore, ghost stories and old folklore, and the real history behind them. Limina Oblita is strange stories, old folklore and hidden worlds. Our first strand is Behind the Legends: Boston, the believer, and Chelsea, the sceptic, go looking for what's really behind the Necronomicon, the ghosts of Highgate Cemetery and more, and the record decides who gives ground. Readings and radio plays from the weird fiction of the 1920s will join them. Limina Oblita is made by people and AI together. Every story is brainstormed, argued over and researched in collaboration: a person brings each one and has the last word, and every source is checked. The voices are made with AI, from scripts written with AI and gone through line by line. The fish-men before the Deep Ones

A headless Triton in a Greek temple. Sea-people reported to Roman emperors. A fisherman who tastes strange grass and becomes an immortal being of the sea. Boston and Chelsea follow the ancient fish-men, then test how much of the trail really leads to Lovecraft: the Ovid reading evidence, Dagon’s inherited fish interpretation and the difference between a literary allusion and a proven source. A sacred lake with a gold-adorned fish opens another possibility. Some creatures of the water taught people; fish-cloaked sages helped protect their homes. The object is real. The under-floor protective practice is documented. That doesn’t make every fish-man the same being. Made by people and AI together: Boston and Chelsea are characters voiced with AI, from scripts written with AI out of research we brainstormed, argued over and checked. The Book of Soyga: the book that only angels could read

John Dee brought an existing magical book to his first recorded session with Edward Kelley in 1582. The reported angel attributed it to revelation to Adam, but reserved interpretation to Michael. What did Dee hope its thirty-six tables could do? Boston and Chelsea follow the surviving Book of Soyga, Deborah Harkness’s recovery of its copies under another name, and Jim Reeds’s discovery of the rule that grows its squares. Then they count six letters from three names of God and build one checked cell aloud. Binding spirits, invisibility and a table made from the master’s own name give the book a purpose beyond an unreadable puzzle. Construction, interpretation and historical practice leave different questions open. Made by people and AI together: Boston and Chelsea are characters with AI voices, working from scripts developed with AI from research we read, argued over and checked. Source links are in the episode notes; the companion letter has the table recipe. The Psychic Arms Race

What would you do if your Cold War rival might be able to see inside a secret base without sending a spy? Boston and Chelsea follow the psychic arms race from Soviet telepathy reports to CIA-funded remote viewing, argue over Pat Price’s crane drawing, and ask how sure governments had to be before they could stop funding the search. Then they work through the experiments themselves: hidden photographs, mental attempts to influence machines, and choices made before a computer selects its target.
