A Remade Man

Garth Lategan

G'day, I'm Garth Lategan. I'm 54, I live in Melbourne, and I've had more fresh starts than I can count. The diets, the gym memberships, the big Monday plans. The promise that this time would be different had an extraordinary attendance record, even when I didn't. What finally worked wasn't a better plan. It was the order I did things in: sleep, structure, honesty and support. When my life got steady enough to hold a change, the change started to hold. Weight-loss surgery in 2022 was part of that, and I've lost more than half my body weight since. But my surgeon told me it was a tool, not a solution, and he was right. The work was everything around it. The same thing happened with dating. I went 20 years before I was in a relationship again. I was the easy-to-be-with nice guy who never got chosen. Dr Robert Glover's No More Mr Nice Guy, a men's group, therapy and my mate Tom Valcanis helped me stop trying to be liked and start being honest. I've run men's groups on Glover's ideas for about fifteen years now, and I'm with the love of my life, Sam. A Remade Man is for men over 40 who are tired of starting again: weight, confidence, dating after 40 and 50, and recovering from being the Nice Guy. Each episode runs around 20 minutes. One honest story from my life, and one small thing you can try for seven days. No meal plans, no pick-up lines, no five simple steps. Just what worked for me, so you can decide what fits your life. Order comes before change. Start there, and the rest has something to hold onto. New episodes every week. Get the free newsletter and the free five-lesson email course, Why You Keep Dating the Same Person, at aremademan.com. This show is my experience, not medical, psychological or financial advice. Please work with qualified professionals on your health.
