    The Bible Records Opinions

    An important truth we must understand is that the Bible contains both direct commands from God and opinions from others. In 1 Corinthians 7, Paul carefully identifies when he is speaking by the Lord's command and when he is giving his own Spirit-guided judgment. This teaches us that not everything recorded in Scripture carries the same level of authority. While these opinions are inspired, wise, and profitable for our instruction, we must be careful not to elevate them to the level of a direct command from God.     God is bringing us new opportunities in this last half of the year

    In this week's office hours, members shared various testimonies including Theresa's experience with God speaking to her through specific words about "selfish ambition," Anya's organization receiving an unexpected grant, Bose's victory over spiritual warfare through prayer and taking authority, and Sonja's development of a free prayer app for health.     Prescriptive scriptures are for doctrine

    Prescriptive Scriptures establish doctrine by providing authoritative commands and principles that apply to all believers for all time, revealing God's ongoing will through clear instructions and consistent biblical patterns.     God Opportunity and Bible Study Update

    This week our family received a God opportunity that will require me to make a change to my planned weekly Bible study on Sundays. I can't share the specifics of the opportunity just yet, but I will share them with you in July. In order to support this opportunity, instead of having weekly Bible studies on Sundays, we will continue with the once-a-month Bible studies for now. To create a somewhat consistent schedule, these once-per-month Bible studies will be held on the first Fridays from 7 PM to 9 PM EST. This will start on Friday, July 3rd.     Some parts of Scripture are descriptive and are not intended to establish doctrine

    Some passages in Scripture are descriptive, meaning they record historical events and actions without intending to establish doctrine or serve as commands for all believers. While these accounts provide valuable lessons and reveal God's work throughout history, doctrine should be built primarily from passages that clearly teach and prescribe God's will. Careful interpretation requires considering the context, timing, and overall message of Scripture so that believers do not mistakenly turn historical narratives into universal commands.     We have to rightly study the Word of God

    The Word of God must be studied rightly so we build our lives on truth rather than falsehood. Since all Scripture is inspired by God, we should study it with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, compare passages, and examine multiple translations to understand God's message. Not every passage is meant to establish doctrine, as some Scriptures describe events while others instruct us how to live.
