David begins as a strong child whose only aspiration is a better life. On the way to his adulthood, David sees how people enter and leave his life. Romanticism takes its place in David’s life as he gets married to Dora Spenlow who is not long for this world. Will David ever find stability and happyness? And what of his wife? Dickens proves to be a master in creating an autobiographical work that is a captivating page-turner.

A hard to please listener

Excellent narration!
Captivating story and storyteller

Narration brings the nuances, charm and humor of each character to life. The story is a wonderful balance of hardship and happiness, with plenty of movement and endearing moments shaping David’s life to hold my interest throughout. Charles Dickens deserves his place among the greatest authors and the narrator is a master storyteller.

An oratory gem, a truly brilliant performance by Tadhg Hynes. Lovingly and genuinely rendered, never over-dramatized. Dickens could only be proud that his masterpiece has been so masterfully read to a new generation of readers/listeners. Thank you!
