Geek History Lesson

I started listening to this podcast several months ago because my eight year old daughter wanted to listen to a podcast about the teen titans. I used to read marvel comics in the late 80s and early 90s. Because my kids watch teen titans go, I’ve been getting back into comics. Ashley and Jason have taught me so much about dc comics and I’ve been reading some Superman and justice league comics because of them. My daughter often listens to episodes with me and on a recent car trip she and my son did their own geek history episode on a made up superhero complete with a meet cute and ten cent origin. I listen to many podcasts, but Geek history is by far the best. Geek history is the most entertaining, most comforting, and enjoyable podcast out there. I love Ashley’s laugh and Jason’s character voices. Whether they are discussing James Bond, Studio Ghibli, or any of the other diverse topics they tackle, I am always excited to hear what they and their guests have to say. They are both so funny, smart, and interesting. I plan on joining the Patreon and look forward to listening for years to come. Also, I find myself relistening to episodes from the archive. Lastly, a few days ago my kids were sitting on the couch singing “gotta go back in time” from the Kang episode, so you’ve also converted us all to Huey Lewis fans. Im sure my wife will be listening soon. My daughter Chi Chi particularly loves the show. Thank you for this wonderful podcast.

This year I finally figured out how to write a review in the actual app. You guys are hysterical. The text men episodes make me laugh so hard. You should bring text men on more often than once a year. Besides text man, I absolutely love your show. Keep doing what you do. Frank Leone

Hi Prof. Ashley & Prof. Jason! Just wanted to write a review as I initially stumbled across GHL via YouTube but decided to migrate over to Apple Podcast to get the full experience. I have loved being able to listen to the GHL episodes on a variety of comic characters to better understand some of their origins and history and to brush up on ones that I am familiar with. These episodes have made the more boring parts of my days go by a lot faster and I love both of your guys’ dynamic while you dive-into the crazy and interesting world of these stories and characters. I was shocked to not find episodes on characters like: Mystique, Rogue, Gambit, Squirrel Girl and Cloak & Dagger but would love to hear them in the future (hopefully). I also would love more episodes on obscure characters that I don’t know much about but have seen pop-up in media like Ambush Bug from DC Comics. Love the episodes that center around certain comic storylines as well. I am excited to get around to reading all of 52 because of listening to Jason gush about it from various episodes and because my first action figure I ever bought from my local comic shop was the 52 series Batwoman (I still have her)! Is there a GHL episode you guys have been excited to make that is overdue or a character you love that hasn’t gotten an episode yet? Anyways, thanks for the great podcast and can’t wait to listen to more! <3

I spent so much time searching for a good podcast that would dive into comic book history, and this one is just perfect. I listened to about 5 different podcasts before I found this one, and none of them were even a fraction as helpful or interesting. (word to the wise: rob liefeld has a podcast called robservations. it's not worth it.) They dive into the meanings behind the character, the origins, the artists & writers, the dates and the issues, and the hosts are just genuinely fun people to listen to. :) I've added many a comics run to my comic bucket list through this podcast. I love Geek History Lesson! (PS: begging for an episode about the role of women in comics, both as characters, (ex: the "fridging" phenomenon discussed on the Kyle Rayner episode) and as artists or writers! I know Ashley has things to say and I am DYING to hear them)
