    Psalm 27

    Fear reaches all of us. Fear of the unknown. Fear of failure. Fear of rejection. Fear of not being enough, not having enough, or not being able to change ourselves or others. And often, fear drives unhealthy responses in our lives—anxiety, anger, insecurity, passivity, escapism, and despair. In Psalm 27, David shows us a different response. Rather than running from fear or being ruled by it, David lets fear drive him into the presence of the Lord. And because we are united to Christ, we too can face fear by drawing near to the presence of God.

    Rome

    In just 350 years, Christianity spread from a small, unimpressive band of ordinary men on the edge of the Roman Empire to millions of believers across the empire itself. Humanly speaking, it made no sense. The disciples lacked power, education, influence, and status. Yet the church grew with astonishing speed, just as Jesus promised it would. Christ declared that he would build his church, that the gates of hell would not prevail against it, and that his witnesses would carry the gospel to the ends of the earth. Acts shows us that this explosive growth was no accident—it was the fulfillment of Christ’s promise that: the gospel is unstoppable.

    Ephesus

    As we arrive at Acts 19:23–41, we're told that "the word of the Lord continued to increase and prevail mightily" (Acts 19:20). The Gospel is on the move in Asia. In our passage, we see that this Gospel, the same Gospel that we continue to preach today, is a threat and a danger to false gods because it exposes the emptiness of idols, the hearts of idolaters, and the danger of idolatry.

If the gospel could hold ground in Athens, it can hold ground anywhere—including among the skeptical, secular people in your life. This message is both a challenge and an encouragement for Christians seeking to speak truth with boldness, wisdom, and genuine love in a deeply secular age. This is Part 2 of a two-part message.

    In Acts 16, the Holy Spirit prevents the Apostle Paul from continuing his missionary activity in Asia, instead calling him to preach the gospel in Macedonia. This brings Paul and his fellow travelers to the city of Philippi where they have three encounters in which we see the gospel advance by God’s power, through their faithful proclamation.

    Pisidian Antioch

    Some of the most difficult people to share the gospel with are those who consider themselves to be Christians, but very likely are not. We might call them "religious" or "cultural Christians"—those who believe in God, are familiar with God, church, and perhaps even the Bible; and yet, seem to lack faith in Jesus. What we see in Acts 13 as Paul preaches in Pisidian Antioch is that the gospel confronts religious familiarity and saves through faith in Jesus. From this passage, and Paul's example, we learn how to pursue the religious in our own lives.
