A crumbling palace, that once stool as the trailblazing, rogue, sneaky-smart show of laughs, with guys who were friends inside your head.
The loss of Stugotz (with little to no explanation) cripples the magic chemistry of court jester vs intellectual.
Commercials now absolutely DOMINATE the show, and they aren’t quick 20 second reads. 2,3,4 minutes of commercial time, with 10-12 minutes of show, repeated 3-4 times per hour, makes the listen choppy and requires a constant finger near the FF button.
The freedom from ESPN has removed the special sauce of animal experts and juggling, on the Worldwide Leader’s network, and the imagining of executives watching, confused.
The show is unable to separate their political positions from the joy of sports in most cases, and Jeremy is the most insufferable listen of anyone I know. For instance, they find it hard to be excited for USA Soccer in the World Cup, because of political issues they currently disagree with. They are unable to be objective or rational about any situation that can be weaved into politics, even when the connection is not evident or even easy to find. It’s exhausting.
I am a 15+ year listener, but find myself listening to 30-60 minutes a week now, typically when Greg Cote is on, as it’s the only remnants of the show we all grew to love. His character is still pure entertainment.
At this point, I have little faith that the show so many of us loved, will ever return to form. And because there is no acknowledgement of hearing or understanding the complaints, or willingness to fix it, that faith wanes every listen. These guys were my best friends and made the dark times brighter for so long. Nothing lasts forever, I guess. But there was a time, when this show stood as the beacon on a hill, for all those who appreciated a good laugh, who were self identified as the misfits, the rule breakers, and the rodeo clowns. When it still burned, it burned as brightly as any. But alas.
