    David Geraghty - Irish Artist Of The Week

    Composer and multi-instrumentalist David Geraghty is a founding member of Bell X1 and he continues to be a driving force behind the band. Releases have included ten albums (Four No.1), extensive world tours, as well as opening for acts such as U2 and Ed Sheeran. Geraghty’s output also includes composing for TV & Film (which includes the short ‘The Crush’ which was short-listed for an Oscar). Alongside this, Geraghty releases solo works. The debut, ‘Kill Your Darlings’ (2007), was received with critical acclaim and was followed up in 2009 with the equally evocative ‘The Victory Dance’. 2014 marked the first of two releases for Geraghty under the moniker ‘Join Me in the Pines’ with an album of brooding dark folk called ‘Inherit’. The release of ‘Monomania’ in 2019 saw a startling shift to a groove-based electro sound that has flashes of Prince, Gary Numan, Bowie, Nile Rodgers. Geraghty has opened for acts such as David Gray and Hall & Oates at Live At The Marquee, Cork and Iveagh Gardens, Dublin. Since his last release, Geraghty completed an undergraduate course where he majored in composition and the study of classical piano. This saw him compose for a range of styles, which included Wind Ensemble, String Quartet and Electronica. These new musical ventures have allowed Geraghty to build on over 30 years of writing songs and creating cinematic soundscapes for screen. For the making of the new album ‘KOMOREBI’, Geraghty also added the enriching process of Mixing to his Writer/Producer credentials. The album is an exciting development in this fresh and creative trajectory and is set for release in on September 18th.

    Minister Announces 80 New Aircraft Mechanic Apprenticeships Roles For Shannon Airport

    The Minister for Further and Higher Education has announced 80 new aircraft maintenance apprenticeship roles at Shannon Airport today. James Lawless has been in the MidWest since yesterday, where he also launched UL's new direct entry undergraduate Medicine programme. The aviation apprenticeship will include a summer training option, while the new medicine course is the first established in the state in 170 years. Minister Lawless has been telling Clare FM's Daragh Dolan that he's also confident of increasing accommodation options for Clare students in the medium term.

    Supercar Spectacle Set to Deliver Economic Boost for Ennistymon

    A North Clare town is set to receive an economic boost this weekend, as more than 200 supercars descend on the county for the annual Cannonball road trip. Europe's largest organised road trip will stop off at The Falls Hotel in Ennistymon on Saturday afternoon, before heading to Bunratty later that evening. The event is expected to attract thousands of spectators, with approximately €2.5 million estimated to be generated for local towns around Ireland. The convoy will feature an incredible line-up of supercars, music and entertainment, with this year's spectators also getting the chance to see a rare Bugatti Chiron hypercar. Founder Alan Bannon says the event has raised more than €2.3 million for Irish children's charities since it began in 2009, with Ronald McDonald House the recipient this year.

    Morning Focus – Live Coverage From The Amgen Irish Open

    Friday’s edition of Morning Focus brought live coverage from Doonbeg as the village continued to welcome visitors for the Amgen Irish Open, with a strong focus on the community, local businesses, sustainability and the village’s rich heritage. Alan Morrissey spoke with Adrian Kelly, Chief Fire Officer with Clare County Council, and Jenny Drysdale of Doonbeg Community Development, about the work being done by Clare County Council and the local community to promote Doonbeg and create a festive atmosphere throughout the village. They discussed the support being provided by the Council during the Irish Open, as well as the range of activities available for those who want to enjoy Doonbeg beyond the golf course. We also heard from Karen Foley, Environmental Awareness Officer with Clare County Council, about sustainability and waste management in Doonbeg this weekend. She discussed how the community is coming together to make the Fáilte Fest a greener event and the steps being taken to manage waste and promote environmental awareness. Anne Behan from McConnell Woollen Mills and Bernadette Haugh, Head of Enterprise with Clare County Council and the Local Enterprise Office Clare, joined us to discuss how local businesses are being supported and promoted during the Amgen Irish Open and Walker Cup. We also explored Doonbeg’s history and heritage, with Aisling Horgan Ryan telling us about the new free Audio Heritage Trail. The award-winning Doonbeg Heritage Trail, first launched in 2022, has now been expanded to include audio, allowing visitors to explore 29 points of interest while hearing the stories, folklore and history connected to the people and places around them.     Fine Gael TD's and Senators have gathered in Wexford for their annual Think-In, with Budget 2027, the cost of living, housing and public services high on the agenda ahead of the return of the Dáil next week.     New Ennis Gamers Guild Builds Warhammer Community

    Warhammer is a game that many people have heard of, but don't know much about. Ennis' local game shop, The Nook and Hobby, are hosting their first Ennis Town Gamers Guild event on Sunday, September 13th in the Temple Gate Hotel. Dan Slattery, the owner of the Nook and Hobby, hopes the event will draw in beginners and lifelong fans alike. Clare FM's Caitlin Earle spoke to Dan, along with shop regulars Luna Molloy and Kiiya Strom, to find out more about the hobby and how events like this can benefit local communities.
