Wakelin Award 2025: Lucia Jones 21.11.25 - 12.04.26 Lucia Jones is a Welsh painter. Since graduating from Falmouth University, she has exhibited internationally in solo and group exhibitions including the National Eisteddfod 2025, BEEP Painting Prize 2018 and 2024. She has also been longlisted for several art prizes such as John Moore’s 2020, Jackson’s Art Prize 2022 and 2023. Her work is currently held in private collections in Australia, Austria, Hong Kong, Mexico, UK and USA. Her practice explores memory and self-perception through the constructs of paint and film. Focusing on the female psyche in painted space, she draws inspiration from 50s-90s b-movies, art history, and her own photographs, recontextualising women as anonymised subjects within fractured and fabricated environments. These painted scenes act as cyphers for lived experience, to be glimpsed and examined. Mae Lucia Jones yn arlunydd o Gymru. Ers graddio o Brifysgol Falmouth, mae hi wedi arddangos ei gwaith yn rhyngwladol mewn arddangosfeydd unigol a grŵp, gan gynnwys Eisteddfod Genedlaethol 2025, a gwobr BEEP Painting 2025 a 2024. Mae hi hefyd wedi cyrraedd y rhestr hir ar gyfer sawl gwobr gelf, fel gwobr John Moores yn 2020 a gwobr Jackson’s Art yn 2022 a 2023. Ar hyn o bryd, cedwir ei gwaith mewn casgliadau preifat yn Awstralia, Awstria, Hong Kong, Mecsico, y DU ac Unol Daleithiau America. Mae ei gwaith yn archwilio cof a hunanganfyddiad drwy gyfryngau paent a ffilm. Gan ganolbwyntio ar yr enaid benywaidd mewn gwaith paentio, mae’n cael ei hysbrydoli gan ffilmiau rhad o’r 1950au tan y 1990au, hanes celf, a’i ffotograffau ei hun, gan newid cyd-destun menywod a’u cyflwyno mewn amgylcheddau toredig a ffug. Mae’r golygfeydd paentiedig hyn yn gweithredu fel seiffr ar gyfer profiad bywyd, pethau i gael cipolwg arnynt a’u harchwilio.
