How ADHD Can Mess With Your Money: Impulse Spending, Admin & the ADHD Tax | Ep 168

Does money admin disappear from your brain the moment it is out of sight? Do you put off opening an email, forget a renewal or buy something for the quick dopamine hit and wonder later why you wanted it? This week Rebecca is joined by Katie Mansey for a practical conversation about the ways ADHD and other neurodivergent traits can affect money, from impulse spending and avoiding financial admin to working memory, shame and the hidden costs of forgetfulness. Rebecca and Katie share examples from their own lives, including missed insurance admin, piles of paperwork, online shopping baskets and the systems they use to make things easier. They also look at how neurodiversity can affect confidence at work, asking for pay rises or charging appropriate fees. The conversation finishes with simple ways to work with your brain rather than against it: automating what you can, making money visible, using separate pots, scheduling a regular money date and getting support when you need it. In this episode: ●       How ADHD, dyslexia and autism can affect working memory, routines and financial admin ●       The "ADHD tax": missed renewals, forgotten subscriptions, late payments and other hidden costs ●       Why shame, overwhelm and avoidance can make money tasks harder to deal with ●       Impulse spending, dopamine and using a cooling-off period before buying ●       How neurodiversity can affect confidence at work, pay rises and what you charge ●       Practical ways to automate money, use separate pots and make finances more visible ●       Money dates, accountability, body doubling and other ways to build support around you Chapters: 00:00 The Weekly Edit: budget speculation, CGT, savings and F.I.R.E (Financial Independence, Retire Early) 10:20 How ADHD can mess with your money 17:11 The ADHD tax, missed admin and financial shame 23:34 Impulse spending and the dopamine hit 32:17 Avoiding financial admin and putting things off 37:23 The hidden costs of forgetfulness 45:07 Undervaluing yourself at work 48:58 Hyperfocus on today instead of future-you 49:28 Automating your money and creating separate pots 52:42 Making money visible 56:52 Building a support team and using body doubling Want to know where you stand with your finances? Resting Bitch Face: What Are You Missing Out On? Confidence, Money & First Impressions | Ep 167

Have you ever looked at someone on the school run and thought they looked a bit unfriendly, only to discover they were just as intimidated by you? This week Rebecca is joined by Katie Mansey, her client manager of eight or nine years and new regular co-host, for a conversation about first impressions, confidence, money and the people we surround ourselves with. It starts with the school run and the assumptions we make about other women. Rebecca talks about withdrawing when she feels uncomfortable, while Katie shares her experience of being bullied at school. They discuss how those feelings can follow us into adulthood, sometimes affecting whether we speak up, ask for a pay rise or put ourselves forward for an opportunity. They also get into recognising your own achievements, questioning the limits you put on yourself and the part other people can play in your success. And there is plenty of chat about asking for help, poo picking and the everyday things that take up more time than you realise. In this episode: ·     First impressions, resting bitch face and why we might misread one another ·     How experiences at school can affect confidence later in life ·     Why self-doubt can influence pay rises, promotions and other money decisions ·     What it means to recognise your own achievements and question your financial ceiling ·     How the people around you can affect the choices you make ·     Working in a way that makes the most of your strengths, and asking for help when you need it ·     Making time for what matters to you, from work to home and the horses Chapters: 00:00 Introducing Katie, Rebecca's new co-host 04:03 Relationships, money and why your network matters 09:45 Resting bitch face, first impressions and the school run 13:20 How self-doubt affects confidence, careers and money 21:30 Financial ceilings and recognising your own success 26:00 Working smarter, building your team and asking for help 38:00 Freeing up time and headspace for what matters 42:20 The Weekly Edit, investing and generational wealth Want to know where you stand with your finances? Why I'm Changing the Podcast: Money, Relationships and Showing Up as Yourself

Sometimes showing up means doing it in your jim jams, with a cup of tea and a Highland cow mug. This episode of Accelerating Your Wealth is a little different. Rebecca is recording from home, without the London studio, the polished setup or everything looking perfect. And that is partly the point. After experimenting with a more produced version of the podcast, Rebecca talks about why the show is shifting again, what she has learned from the past year, and why she wants to bring more real-life conversations back into it. The theme for the next few months is relationships: our relationship with money, with ourselves, with our partners and with the people around us. In this episode: Why Accelerating Your Wealth is moving away from the polished studio format What Rebecca learned from trying to make the podcast look and feel more "professional" Why showing up imperfectly can sometimes be more useful than waiting until everything is right What the Summer Reset taught Rebecca about the conversations people engage with The new focus on relationships, money and the psychology behind both What is coming up around divorce, relationships and money later this year Why Rebecca is still working on her own money mindset after 26 years in financial services The financial "ceiling" we can place on ourselves without realising it Dreaming bigger, and working out what success actually looks like for you Why books, learning and Rebecca's own experiences will become a bigger part of the show A look back at the podcast, its back catalogue and some of the episodes listeners continue to return to Timestamps: 00:00 Welcome, the jim jams and what is changing 04:19 Showing up when everything isn't perfect 08:41 Why the London studio format stopped working 12:10 Bringing more of "Becky with a cup of tea" back to the podcast 15:46 Relationships, money and what's coming next 20:04 Divorce, books and working on your relationship with money 23:59 Money ceilings, dreaming bigger and defining success 27:54 What Rebecca is learning now and what's coming up on the show Want to know where you stand with your finances? And if Rebecca sometimes turns up in her jim jams with a cup of tea, that's part of it too.

Breaking Money Taboos: The Conversations Women Need to Have

Name a powerful woman with money from your childhood. A role model from the films and stories you grew up with. The only one we could come up with was Cruella de Vil, a villain who wanted to turn puppies into a coat. Every other story gave us princesses waiting to be rescued. This is the final episode of our Summer Reset, the 6-part summer series where Rebecca is joined by her Evolution Financial Planning colleagues Katie, Client Manager and Protection Adviser, and Carol Wright, Independent Financial Adviser and Money Coach. In this episode: Why money is still a taboo subject for so many women, and what the silence costs The other side of it: male pride, and the £5,000 credit card that never gets mentioned Where the "women are bad with money" story comes from, and how recent that history really is Money blocks: the beliefs running quietly in the background before you can question them The Cruella de Vil problem, and what happens when your only wealthy female role model is a villain What we honestly think when we see a woman who is visibly wealthy, and why the reaction isn't about her Women, inheritance and the wealth transfer ahead The questions to start asking yourself, beginning with "what would happen financially if..." From Striving to Thriving: Turning Income into Long-Term Wealth

Rebecca's son gets a pound for every dojo point he earns at school. Last week he asked to buy one of his squishy dumpling toys, and she said yes, with your own money. His whole face changed. We adults are no different. When spending has no connection to anything real, we just keep spending. This is episode 4 of our Summer Reset, the 6-part summer series where Rebecca is joined by her Evolution Financial Planning colleagues Katie, Client Manager and Protection Adviser, and Carol Wright, Independent Financial Adviser and Money Coach. In this episode: The 3-month bank statement audit, and why a highlighter is your best financial tool Subscription creep, including the 3 Netflix screens nobody in the house was using Teaching children the value of money, and why the same principle works on adults The Money Multiplier calculator: what your daily coffee actually costs over 5 years Why the people who got wealthier own assets, and how the rest of us are marketed into spending The signs you're ready to move from managing money to a proper wealth strategy Business owners: company pension contributions, relevant life cover and what happens if you can't work Income protection versus critical illness cover, and the claim that won't pay out Katie's cousin, widowed at 34, and the life policies that let her keep her home Your 12-month thriving plan: what to review, automate, stop and learn Timestamps: 00:00 Cold open and welcome 04:07 The bank statement audit and subscription creep 05:25 Dojo points, dumplings and teaching the value of money 06:47 The Money Multiplier: what your coffee really costs 10:33 How wealthy people play a different game 13:11 Signs you're ready for a wealth strategy 14:00 Business owners: pensions, protection and sick pay 14:39 Income protection vs critical illness cover 17:48 Katie's cousin and why protection matters 19:19 Your 12-month thriving plan Want to know where you stand with your finances? Property, Protection and Power: The Foundations of Women's Wealth

"He always told her, you'll be sorted." Then he died. They weren't married, and there was no evidence he had ever added her to his pension. This is episode 3 of our Summer Reset, the 6-part summer series where Rebecca is joined by her Evolution Financial Planning colleagues Katie, Client Manager and Protection Adviser, and Carol, Independent Financial Adviser and Money Coach. This one covers the places where women who feel financially fine are actually deeply vulnerable, and it ends with a practical checklist you can work through this week. In this episode: Why having all your wealth in property is riskier than it feels, and the client with three properties and no pension House prices rose about 200% in 25 years. What happens if the next 25 don't repeat it? Overpaying the mortgage versus investing, and how to actually decide The partner who was told "you'll be sorted", and why promises are not protection "It's all in my husband's name", and the client using his fingerprint to find out what they owned Why the default parent needs protecting too, and what it would cost to replace everything they do Life cover, income protection and critical illness: knowing what you actually have The financial housekeeping checklist, best done with a friend, cake and a glass of wine Timestamps: 00:00 Cold open and welcome 03:58 Is property still the safest bet? 07:26 House prices, landlords and the 200% question 12:26 Overpay the mortgage or invest? 13:27 All your eggs in the property basket 16:55 "It's all in his name" and the access problem 18:50 Protecting the default parent 20:51 Life cover, income protection and critical illness 23:09 The financial housekeeping checklist Want to know where you stand with your finances? Why Women Earn and Save but Still Struggle to Build Wealth

Two clients in the same week. One earned £25,000 a year, the other £120,000. By the end of every month, both had nothing left. This is episode 2 of our Summer Reset, the 6-part summer series with my Evolution Financial Planning colleagues Katie, Client Manager and Protection Adviser, and Carol Wright, Independent Financial Adviser and Money Coach. This one unpacks the gap between earning money and building wealth: lifestyle inflation and where the pay rise really goes, the social media comparison trap, the play money principle that makes a plan actually stick, why so many women feel investing is like putting money on a roulette wheel, and the cash flow forecast that showed one client her money could last 5 or 6 years longer.
