TEACHING NOTES: Point 1: New Believers Are Counting The Cost (v1) Thessalonica was a wealthy and prosperous place The Thessalonian church were suddenly living by a ‘new system’ They faced tension and opposition Point 2: New Believers Need Our Prayers (v2) Paul was so encouraged by their early faith Every new believer is a miracle from God Just like new born babies, new born believers can be vulnerable Point 3: Our Call Is to Faith, Love and Hope Faith in Jesus is both the door and the way to salvation As faith grows up towards Jesus our love should grow out towards others Hope in God’s promises fuels our faith and love.

    “God Is in the Dark Room” John 4v24 [13th Sept 2026]

    Evening Bible teaching by Alex Vaca on the 13th September 2026. TEACHING NOTES: John 4:24: “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. Main truth- When we cannot see God, he is still present. God is invisible, but he is not absent. 1. God is invisible- but completely real God is spirit, not a physical being or part of the created universe. We may not see him, but we can trust his presence. 2. God is personal- not an impersonal force God speaks, knows, loves, commands and forgives. Through Jesus, believers know him as their Father. 3. God cannot be contained God does not live only in a church building. He is present in our homes, workplaces, suffering and darkest moments. 4. God cannot be hidden from His presence comforts the suffering believer but warns the secret sinner. Nothing is concealed from him. 5. God has revealed himself through Jesus Jesus is “the image of the invisible God” (Colossians 1:15). To know what God is like, we must look at Christ. 6. God must be worshipped in spirit and truth True worship is more than attending church or singing songs. It comes from a heart awakened by the Holy Spirit and shaped by God’s truth.

    “I’m Fine, Thanks” Revelation 3v14-22 [13th Sept 2026]

    Bible teaching by Thomas Abbott on the 13th September 2026. TEACHING NOTES: The Laodicean church thought they had it all sorted. But Jesus knew better. The book of Revelation begins with John ‘in the spirit on the Lord’s day’ (Revelation 1:10), receiving a vision of the risen Jesus. Jesus instructs John to write to seven churches, speaking directly into their spiritual condition. In his letter to the Laodicean church, after reminding them of who he is, Jesus exposes their pride and self-reliance. Yet he doesn’t leave them there. Jesus offers them what they lack, reminds them that his correction comes from a place of love, calls them to repent, and invites them back into fellowship with him. The message is challenging, but ultimately hopeful. Pride says, “I’m fine, thanks.” But Jesus loves us enough to tell us when we’re not - and by grace offers what we cannot provide for ourselves.

    “Jesus’ Presence: Restoration” John 21 [6th Sept 2026]

    In the Presence of the Lord There is Restoration. If you could go back in time to another point in your life, what would you change, what wrong would you right? For Peter, he’d just denied Jesus at his moment of greatest need, having only just a few hours before declared his undying allegiance towards him. What a humiliation this must have been, and what he might have given to have had the chance to go back and change it. Unfortunately we don’t have time machines and we can’t go back and change the past. But we do have a saviour, who lifts us up after we’ve failed. This week at Hillcrest we’ll be looking at John 21, a moment that dealt with Peter’s greatest failure and reconfirmed him as one of Jesus’ greatest servants as we see that In the Presence of Jesus there is Restoration.     “When God’s Patience Reaches Its Limit” Amos 7v1-9 [6th Sept 2026]

    Bible teaching by Alex Vaca on the 6th September 2026. TEACHING NOTES: 1. God warns before He judges - verses 1-3 • God showed Amos a vision of locusts devouring Israel’s crops. • God’s warnings are expressions of mercy, calling us to repent while there is still time. 2. God responds to prayer - verses 4-6 • Amos then saw a consuming fire threatening the land. • Once again, Amos prayed for Israel. Once again, God relented. 3. God measures His people - verses 7-9 • In the third vision, God stood beside a wall holding a plumb line. • The plumb line revealed whether the wall was straight or crooked. • Israel appeared prosperous and religious, but God’s standard exposed its true condition. • We must measure our lives by God’s Word, not by culture or comparison with others. 4. God’s patience must not be mistaken for approval • Israel continued sinning because judgment did not come immediately. • They assumed their prosperity meant that God was pleased with them. • But delayed judgment did not mean cancelled judgment. God’s patience gives us time to repent; it does not give us permission to continue in sin. 5. The opportunity to repent will not remain forever • Amos prayed after the first two visions, but he was silent after the third. • God declared: “I will never again pass by them.” The warning had now become the verdict. • God’s supply of grace is not limited, but the opportunity to receive His mercy will not remain open forever. 6. Jesus is our only hope God is patient and merciful, but His warnings must be taken seriously. Do not wait until the warning becomes the verdict. Turn to Christ while there is still time.

    “Our Hope above all Hope” Micah 7v8-20 [23rd Aug 2026]

    Bible teaching by Thomas Abbott on the 23rd August 2026. TEACHING NOTES: In Micah 7:8 we read: Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light. (NIV) That is Micah’s hope, both for Israel and for himself. Israel’s circumstances gave Micah little reason for hope. Instead, the concluding verses of Micah reveal that his hope was based entirely on the character of God - the God who pardons sin, delights in mercy and remains faithful to his promises. But what Micah could see only as a glimmer of light, we see fully revealed in Jesus Christ – our Hope above all hope.
