One of the best Retro Podcasts

I think what I like the most about this show is they're willing to go off the beaten path with the games they play every week. Nothing is too obscure or terrible for the hosts to try out. Great listen every week.

Weak

Disclaimer: my reference is an episode from 2015 (Episode 018 - Myst)- maybe things have improved since then.

Just hoping the ride the nostalgia train a bit for a game I played as a kid, but the hosts didn't seem interested in doing much but trashing the game they were discussing while simultaneously admitting they didn't understand it or progress very far at all. I get it - Myst isn't for everyone. But the "critique" devolved into basically a string of snide comments about the existence of spinoff novels and annual Myst conventions. Personally, I'm not that interested in Myst outside of the first game, but I found this part of the discussion to be very nerd-shamey, and ironic coming from a podcast titled Your Parents' Basement. "[The people that go to the conventions] are the worst kind of nerds," was probably the cringeist line from the show. And it was all met with giggling. *eyeroll*

Again, this isn't about strangers hurting my feeling by taking a dump on my favorite game. It's cool, but Myst isn't in my top 5 or anything. It's about a general lack of quality discussion, not to mention respect for fellow game fans. Hopefully that's something that has improved in the last two years.
