“Deep in Bear Country” is an amazing podcast for fans of the Berenstain Bears. I don’t remember reading many of the Berenstain Bears books as a kid, although I was familiar with them. But now that I am a father of a three-year-old girl who LOVES the Berenstain Bears, I have been reading these books several times every day and also watching the most recent television series on TV (which I think is very well done).
I just started listening a couple of weeks ago and am only on Episode 38, but I love Phil’s enthusiasm and knowledge when it comes to everything having to do with Bear Country. His theories that attempt to tie together all of the various threads that appear throughout the various Bears books are so interesting. Having read these books to my daughter many, many times, I have begun to think about Bear Country and its society, so I really appreciate that Phil takes the time to discuss these elements and doesn’t simply summarize the stories, which would not be as interesting to me.
There are fantastic guests that appear on the show as well, and their knowledge and expertise really help to make this podcast shine. It’s very well written, well produced, and full to the brim with thought-provoking discussions about the Berenstain Bears.
If you are the parent of a young child who is obsessed with the Berenstain Bears, you will definitely appreciate this podcast. But even if you yourself are just a fan or remember reading the books as a kid, you will probably find many reasons to continue listening to every episode of this podcast! I look forward to listening to this podcast every night after my kids go to bed. But Phil also has done some readings of Berenstain Bears books that my daughter requests over and over when we are in the car.
I am so glad I found this podcast and I’m so thankful that Phil decided to continue it for as long as he has. I have so many episodes to look forward to, and I’ve already learned so much!
