2026 NEW Hemp Law Updates: States Jumping the Gun

One of the biggest needs in the Hemp and Cannabis Industry is an understanding of regulation changes at the federal, state, and even local level. So here are the biggest changes in the hemp industry since my last episode, with the major theme being states jumping the gun: 🟢 FloridaFL S1678: https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1925360FLH0801: https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1918116FLh1409: https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1925213S1368: https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1922736FLS1270: https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1921910 🟢 Chicago (a city-specific regulation update)Ban Bill With Short Term Beverage Carve Out Passed Out of Council: https://news.wttw.com/sites/default/files/article/file-attachments/011526%20Hemp%20Compromise%20Substitute.pdf 🟢 New JerseyBan Bill With Short Term Beverage Carve Out Passed: https://www.nj.gov/governor/news/news/562026/approved/20260112a.shtml 🟢 South Dakota 🟢 South CarolinaH4759 5MG Beverage Bill: https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1918433SC h4758 - Total Ban: https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1918427 🟢 IndianaSB250: https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1924278 🟢 + a Federal Update Need a monthly FULL 50 STATE review, specific to your product line? While I personally believe the word is outdated, unscientific, and rooted in racially charged propaganda, it still appears in federal and state law — which makes it necessary in legal conversations. As an attorney, I use the language defined by law when discussing federally illegal substances. There is currently no federal legal definition for "cannabis"... but there is for “hemp” and “marijuana," so clarity matters. When referring to THC content and legal classifications, that’s when you’ll hear the word used. But make no mistake: in my eyes, it’s all cannabis.
