    Dissecting the Zombie Film

The occult and religion have a big role in cinema, so we narrowed our discussion to two movies that explore Santeria to... differing effects: "I Walked with a Zombie" (1943), and "Angel Heart" (1987). Join us for a drink as we chat about the actual craft of film making, the history of the medium, and give some background insight to what makes a movie spooky. We also touch on the important subject of racism and xenophobia in movies that use other cultures for shock value, the importance of doing your research, and such taboo subjects as Mickey Rourke's ass.     Dungeonology 101

    Demons and monsters have been a part of the human psyche for as long as storytelling has existed, but one of the most interesting modern iterations of monsterkind is how they've become part of the games we play, even sympathetic characters we want to be! That's right. This week we're taking a look at Dungeons and Dragons, and comparing the monster lore in the game to two influential pieces of hellish literature, Dante's Inferno and The Lesser Key of Solomon.
