Dr. Shanelle Fields is a compassionate mental health professional, author, and grief advocate devoted to helping individuals navigate life’s most tender seasons with honesty, patience, and care. A native of Florence, South Carolina, she has spent over 30 years rooted in Charleston, serving and uplifting the Lowcountry community she deeply understands. With more than 17 years of experience in education, Dr. Fields has served across the Charleston County School District as both a teacher and school counselor supporting students and families through growth, learning, and life transitions. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education from the College of Charleston, a Master’s in Secondary School Counseling from The Citadel, and a PhD in Counseling and Human Services from Capella University. In 2018, she became a Licensed Professional Counselor and founded Taking the First Step Counseling & Educational Services, LLC in Summerville, SC. Dr. Fields works with adolescents and adults navigating grief, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationship challenges. Her approach is rooted in compassion and meeting people where they are helping them build resilience, shift mindset, and rediscover their ability to heal.
