Episode 550: Jill Shanteau, LCSW. Caring For Service Members

Episode 550: Jill Shanteau, LCSW. Caring For Service Members

Jill Shanteau is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker employed as a therapist at the Harry S Truman VA in Columbia, Missouri. Jill previously joined me back on episode 503. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Life Science from Kansas State University and a Master's Degree in Social Work from Washburn University. While Jill always endeavored to be a therapist, it wasn't until 2014, after facing some personal and family challenges, that she relocated from Virginia to Missouri and began taking the steps to eventually earn full clinical licensure in 2017.

In this episode Jill talks about what inspired her to begin working with service members and how she manages treating our veterans during these challenging times. As a former Department of the Army civilian employee at The Pentagon, Jill became intimately familiar with the struggles that service members face as they return from deployment or make the challenging transition from the military into the civilian community. Now with five years of experience at Veterans Affairs, Jill has spent a majority of her social work career serving service members, veterans, and  their families.

Episode 548: Eli Weinstein, LCSW. Finding Your Superpower

When Eli was 19, he says that he had little to no confidence in being himself. While studying abroad, he took a Dale Carnegie Course about public speaking and self-esteem building.
That course helped him break out of his shell and learn what it truly meant to be himself.
The rest, as they say, was history!
After working for a teen youth organization for 7 years in both the New York and West Coast area, he went to Fordham University School of Social Work where heI received his LMSW and he’s now a practicing Social Worker.
It's his passion and life goal to help people feel happy, confident, fulfilled and powerful in their everyday life.
Eli has gone on to create ELIvation, a program that focuses on public speaking, confidence-boosting, relationship coaching, mental health, general motivation, and inspiration, and has been featured on the Kelly Clarkson Show.

Episode 546: Timothy Shaw, PhD. The Trauma of Moral Injury

Episode 546: Timothy Shaw, PhD. The Trauma of Moral Injury

Hold on to your hats because in this interview we take a deep dive into moral injury with my guest Timothy Shaw, PhD.
Dr. Shaw studies the impact, origins and implications of moral injury. And in this interview I can say that I definitely received a master class in the finer points of what this term means and how it impacts individuals.
Timothy has undertaken original research into how laws of war and deeper considerations of ethics and justice can inform our understanding of moral injury, the ‘signature sound’ of contemporary war.
Timothy has taught ethics at university of Sydney and holds a research masters investigating the implications of just war theory - the most uninterrupted, longest-continuing study of moral decision-making known in the Western World - on psychological distress arising from preparative agency.
In addition, Tim received his PhD on the topic of moral injury, and the question of why killing is traumatic using the ethical optics of French philosopher, Emmannuel Levinas.
Tim is also editor of Great Philosophical Problems, a leading philosophical content publisher and leading voice in field of moral injury, Levinas and the just war tradition.
