  1. Laureen Rahn

    Laureen Rahn

On April 26, 1980, 14-year-old Laureen Rahn had a taste of freedom. Her mother was away watching a tennis match, meaning Laureen had the house to herself that night. She invited a few friends over, and they hung out and drank for a while, before going to bed. But when Laureen’s mother, Judy returned a few hours later, she found her daughter’s friend fast asleep, but Laureen was nowhere to be found.  Police initially classified the teenager as a runaway, but her family says she would never have left everything behind. But over the years, a series of strange phone calls made them wonder: is Laureen actually out there somewhere?  If you have any information about the disappearance of Laureen Rahn, please contact the Manchester Police Department at 1-603-668-8711. 2. Jacob Cabinaw

    13 SEPT

    Jacob Cabinaw

On March 31, 2010, 31-year-old Jacob Cabinaw spent the evening playing a casual round of frisbee golf with a friend in Traverse City, Michigan. When the game wrapped up, Jacob’s friend invited him to hang out at a local park, but he declined, saying he had homework to do for his college classes. He dropped the friend off and said he was heading home to his mom’s house, where he lived. But It was the last time anyone in Michigan would see Jacob Cabinaw. In the coming days, puzzling clues emerged suggesting that instead of driving home, Jacob had driven over 1,200 miles south instead. By the end of that week, Jacob had vanished without a trace, leaving behind a mystifying trail that stretched from Michigan to Texas, and a family who doesn’t believe he would have left them willingly. If you have any information about the disappearance of Jacob Cabinaw, please contact the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office at 231-995-5002, or submit an anonymous tip through their website. 3. Re-Release: Ben McDaniel

    5 SEPT

    Re-Release: Ben McDaniel

“Go no farther. There’s nothing in this cave worth dying for.” Those were the words printed on the sign at the entrance of an underwater cave in Vortex Springs, Florida. Despite this plaintive warning and the drawing of the Grim Reaper that accompanied it, many divers of differing skill levels failed to heed these words in search of adventure. On August 18, 2010, 30-year-old Ben McDaniel was seen entering the water in his scuba gear. He was never seen on land again. What was at first assumed to be a tragic, yet straightforward diving accident came into question as days went by without Ben’s body being found. Did Ben get deeper into the cave than anyone could have imagined? Or did someone remove him from the water before searchers could find him? Some have questioned if Ben was ever in the water at all that night, or if something completely different happened on the ground. The only thing we know for sure is that after a decade, despite an extensive search, no one knows for sure what happened to Ben McDaniel. Anyone with information on the disappearance of Ben McDaniel is urged to call the Holmes County Sheriff's Office 850-547-3681. Re-Release: Trudy Appleby

This episode was originally released on September 1, 2021. We're re-releasing it this week so you can catch up before listening to our update episode. When Dennis Appleby came home during his lunch break and didn't see his 11-year-old daughter Trudy, he wasn't initially worried. It was the last days of summer and he assumed she was outside or over at a friend's house enjoying herself. But when he returned from work that evening and there was still no sign of Trudy, he knew something was wrong. Despite witnesses and even Dennis himself saying he knew who was responsible for his daughter's disappearance, Trudy Appleby's case has remained unsolved for the last 25 years. But that could all be changing soon, as police believe they are closer than ever to having the proof they need to put her abductors in prison.
