D. 9. maj 1945 passerede en stor konvoj af tyske flygtningeskibe Christiansø. Øboerne samledes for at se de fyldte skibe, uvidende om den tragedie, der ventede. For pludselig dukkede russiske bombefly op og angreb konvojen. Ifølge øjenvidnerne mistede tusindvis af mennesker livet på havet den dag, men historien er omgærdet af tvivl og modstridende kilder. I denne dokumentarserie rejser journalisterne Kirstine Christensen og Anna Hjorth tilbage til krigens sidste døgn for at opklare mysteriet ved Christiansø.
